Regardless of whatever the answer, as far as I am concerned, using a backup is a safer way of doing things. Regardless of software.

But I am a careful (possibly paranoid) person, and care about our data.

Doubt it. I am certain that there is a vb3 converter, not sure about the vb4 one.

I'll have to find the post, but Kier said that a vb4 importer would not be a problem, also said it should come at or soon after beta.

Hmm... well I just hope theres the 3 main converters -> vB3, vB4, and IPB3
And hopefully the IPB3 converter soon after the vB4.

That post says that the vb4 converter will not be a problem but won't necessarily be here with the beta release.
Will be soon after or latest by 1.0

Just on the IPB side of things, if anyone is running 2.x boards and planning to move to Xen then I would suggest first upgrading to IPB3 to avoid waiting on a converter for the earlier versions.
