Combining Two Boards

I have run the board AMB (www.amb.dog) since 2004 -- for a long time now, my board will be allowed to drink this year.

Last year, a buddy of mine passed away. Some of you may remember him, but he was @BirdOPrey5 and ran the board www.juot.net. After he passed, I inherited his board. His board's hosting has been paid until June of this year, at which point I'll take over those payments.

What I would really like to do is just combine the two boards.

Both boards have a long history -- mine being around since 2004, and JUOT being around since 2007. They each have their own culture, inside jokes, and most important each has their own mood which doesn't mix well with the other. Thus, I would like to do this combination in a way that almost mimics Reddit's admin/mod relationship -- here is my proposal:

The combined board would have two top level subforums: AMB and JUOT, and then sub-forums that exist on each board today would exist under the corresponding subforum on this new combined board. Users on this new board would be able to browse all forums, however, if they are an AMB user, they would only be able to see forum names and nothing else (no threads, no posts) ion the JUOT side of the board, and vice-versa for the JUOT users. They could request access to the forums, but it would be up to the existing mods of the forums to grant that access, and those mods could kick users out of the forums at any time.

What I'd really like is a model like Reddit's, where users can create their own forums (a mod I started working) and regulate their own forum how they see fit. I don't want users DM'ing me to kick someone out of a forum, I'd like users themselves to be able to do that.

Does anyone have any ideas of thoughts on how I might do this?

First off sorry to hear about @BirdOPrey5. He was a good guy and was a big part of vbulletin back in the day.

Combining forums is fairly straight forward. The importers will do all the work for you. Make sure all the files and database are on the same server. Then run the importer. You can do it on either site. Once you get started we can help you along.

I combined two forums before, but they were both mine. Basically I had an old phpBB2 board that was replaced after a hack broke it in 2007, and a new phpBB3 board that replaced it and had been in use since then. When I was moving my board to Xenforo, I went and discovered I could Frankstein tables from a good backup into a bad backup to make a mostly-complete one, and I used it to restore the old phpBB2 board, converted it to phpbb3, and then imported both forums into my initial Xenforo installation so that I'd have all the history from 2004 to the present. As far as "is it technically possible" to import more than one forum into one Xenforo, the answer is yes and the importers were amazing and easy. The only snag is making sure you properly do the redirects.
