XF 1.5 Cleaning up ancient history

I am in the process of examining 15 years worth of posts on our message board with inherited trash from many different forum software packages. One of our earliest packages left a lot of html visible in the post content on line. In particular a lot of <span style = "xyz">Some useful material </span>..

Is there a brief guide somewhere that would help me with the regular expressions or whatever I might need to strip all that old stuff out. In many cases the spans were being used to style text (almost all cases). I suppose I really want to replace the spans with bbCode equivalents from a table I would create of the translations. I am comfortable doing with the phpMyAdmin.

Has anyone else run into this issue?

Your best bet is to use the Post Content Find and Replace add on which is available in the Resource Manager.

For help with the regular expressions there are likely various examples you can use mentioned in the Resource thread or you could post in there for support as there are a reasonable number of regex wizards who seem to post solutions in there 🙂
