Brogan, what the hell are you still doing up ??

It's 4:30 AM right now and I've done more work in the past couple of hours than I did yesterday during the daytime. I think this has got more to do with having no distractions and being completely focussed on the task at hand, than anything else.

No phone calls + no people visiting you + soft instrumental music = Productivity! :)

Oh yeah and music. Lately for me, Armin van Buuren. With music = 100% productivity. No music = Stares at monitor.

Dunno if any of you find yourselves more productive at night?

Definitely the case for me but I don't buy the arguments about distracting background noises and should said study actually exist (which I don't know and I'm not going to google for it), it's probably crap like many other studies.

Fact is, I cannot be productive in complete silence, because I find the absence of any noise distractive, so for me it there must be another reason. Study proven wrong, plain and simple :)

Oh yeah, for sure !!

I find at night it tends to bring out my productive gene. During the day, and experience and studies shown recently conducted by the I.A.L.B group that during the day people tend to delve into a less productive state easily distracted by background sounds, birds chirping away though this becomes and gets more influential towards the afternoon and that "gene" being exposed that causes long spats of procrastinating.

Dunno if any of you find yourselves more productive at night? Maybe the time of day doesn't influence your working habits, efficiency at all.

Yes Shelley, I was so productive last night I was able to turn over on my pillow so I could rest my neck (I was in a lot of pain I think from throwing heavy sticks for my dog to chase) which I think had a slight pinched nerve in it, I guess I made the right move because once I got up the pain was gone.

I think from throwing heavy sticks? Are you sure it was the dog chasing the stick? Try starting out fetching the newspaper, alot easier, I've been there. Glad the neck is on the mend Anthony.

Pinched nerve in the neck is like wondering why you are even living, it would be hell to be in that condition like some are all their lives, if it only lasts a few days you are very lucky.

The being productive at night (and for me personally) I'm really more productive at night. Not because it's quiet because in the day it's quiet. I can't explain it, or why but during the day I have to force myself to get any kind of work done (computer related, design). Where at night, the creative juices flow and I'm designing and finalising client works at a faster pace.
Face it Shelley, you're a natural-born nightowl!

I don't advertise my "difficulties" via the net. I just wake up and get on with it making the best that life throws at you.

Well whether you buy it or not, this happens to be the case for me. I cannot work when there are distractions, due to the fact that I have attention deficit disorder.
Trust me, the disorder is very real, and not crap. :)

There are some of us at both ends of the spectrum which is why the study existed. While most people need some kind of noise (usually white noise which your body tends to tune out) all the way to full blown music/people/etc for them to be at their best.

And while most of us who swear we need quiet, don't realize there is some white noise in the background...fridge humming, fan running, heat (this time of year for some of us). I know I am most productive when it's quiet late at night or early morning but even then, there is sosme noise in my background. Noise I am so use to it isn't noticed unless not there.

And then there are people who surround themselves to be productive.

Well I'm completing a script here at midday .... thus far have changed one of the beds (decided I might do the lot), pruned back some trees on the back boundary, went and got milk, and checked what the Studio estimates were in North America for the weekend. Now I guess I should go test this script .... after taking the dog for a walk .... ohhhhh House season 1, might sneak the first episode ....

True. I don't even consider the "white noise" noise, because I don't hear it.

Case in point: I'm completing the third of four assignments I have for finals week (other than studying for two actual exams), and I finished the other two in the last few hours. :P
