Barefooting

I used to go barefoot around the house & yards... then we got a dog.

...nor do kangaroos hop down the streets :p hehehe
Now, see, this is where the marketing people are missing an opportunity. If there was a town where kangaroos just casually hop down the street unrestricted, then the Mrs. & I would make a point of visiting.

Much of the time that is due to junkies that'll leave needles out, or if there is broken glass from beer bottles. I think thats common for most parts in the United States.
well see here's the thing....

That would be the case if there was junkies in my town.... but for the most part you have to understand this...

The Town i live in now (I moved out and back to town about a year ago) is a great town.... small at just under 10 sq miles , three elementary schools, a middle school and a high school. We have very little crime in our actual town and the police here are all over everything so basically if people are booting things their refuse isn't in a park as there is absolutely NO way in my town there would be junkies out in a public place doing their dirt.

To further the claim that dangerous things could not and don't happen in this particular park...It's in a residential neighborhood, it's the smallest of our 4 parks , at the entrance of the park (which is cut out of a forest by the way and has a hiking trail in it and bmx trails...) is a naval / marine reserve base fenced off with it's own parking lot that you must pass to get into the actual park. So my point with all this is there is no logical reason why one couldn't prefer to take their footwear off and do so... I can see at some of the other parks but why this one. Makes no sense to me. Though I distinctly remember as a child being barefoot there riding a bike pulling up and getting french fries during a little league game.
Now that is just sad, they have squeezed any fun out of going to the park haven't they :(

Things change I guess :( I find my self saying 'back in the day" a lot more now. This kinda puts prospective on the why of it for me. I'm at a place that claims the right to bare arms but they barred bare feet.

Well on a lighter side I'm barefooted right now and enjoying it

Edited: Reason ... Because I'm a noob and somehow submitted this before I was finished. Clickclickclick

I thought Aussie beaches had very potent jellyfish and stone fish on them?

LOL not all of them :p we have 25,760 kms of coast/beach .. plenty of choice to avoid the nasties ;) we have a gorgeous calm beach near us, and no nasties *touch wood*

The Box Jellyfish and Stonefish are predominately found in Far North Queensland.

I have never seen needles outdoors and very very rarely have I run across broken glass and when I have it was on accident and it is quickly cleaned up. :)

Half of the USA is nearly empty. :)

ss :-(

10 sq miles. That is a massively large town :)

One of the reasons I think people feel something is happening is because it is but not for the reasons they might be led to believe.

These shoes change the way you walk from a traditional shoe and as a result your legs have to change to learn how to walk and get comfortable again, which means the muscles in your legs are working differently. It's the same concept as working out: Do the same thing for a long time and you won't feel like you're working out. Do a different exercise that works out those muscles but in a different way you're definitely going to notice a difference.

Quite right - though I say why swap one type of footwear that does your feet no good for another type? Take them off, get better posture and a workout, and don't pay a penny :)

One question for all you outdoor barefooters, what do you do when you reach home again?

In Turkey no-one wears outdoor footwear inside a home and everyone removes theirs before entering anyone's house, even their own. Every household always has a supply of guest slippers/slip-ons/sandals, etc.
It's something I've always done here myself in the UK too both for my own home and the homes of friends I visit.

In Turkey it's not too bad as all the floors are hard surfaces such as marble but in the UK it's mainly carpet so I dread to think how bad some of them get.

With a new baby who will soon be crawling around on the floor, I'm glad this is the case.

However, if you're barefoot, then you can hardly remove your feet so you're going to drag all sorts of dirt and nasty stuff into your house.

This looks like a fun gadget. :p

I have been doing some barefoot walking outside every other day since this thread. It has really improved my step and my stride, with or without shoes. It's like I had forgotten how I am supposed to walk. My step was too heavy on the heel strike before, and I barely used my arch at all. That is changing.

Funny you should mention that - I wondered how much more of a role the arch of the foot plays when unshod and actually shot a bit of video the other day with me stepping up onto a ledge with and without shoes so I could see the difference. It's really quite astonishing - in shoes I felt I needed to get my whole foot up onto the ledge because the shoes prevented me from exercising the strength in the arch to keep my balance, whereas without shoes I felt perfectly stable standing on the balls of my feet and toes with the arch bearing all my weight.

Anyway, glad you're giving it a try and it's illuminating the way somewhat :)

LOL, baby wipes are so handy in so many ways, can't live without them!

You can say that again. I've gone through packets of johnsons baby wipes that it would be beneficial for me to starting thinking of becoming a shareholder. Since bare footing which is becoming a day to day experience for me I tend to use more baby wipes and e45 so that my feet retain it's good health status.

Baby wipes, it's just as important as the air we breathe. :D
