Barefooting

Cool, we live in sister cities. I'm in Sydney , Nova Scotia :D I fact, 2 or 3 times a year we get people flying in to Sydney, NS who were expecting to land in Sydney, Australia. Those silly airline people....

LOL :p Wow.. I didn't know there was a Sydney in Nova Scotia - Googles, Wiki's.... hehehe cool!

I see you have a balmy -22.2 (-8) average Dec weather... nice :D Might come and visit when it gets too hot here!!!

Yeah, it's actually not bad here in the Winter, but that's only in recent years. It used to get much colder, with much more snow. Many people poo-poo the whole global warning thing, but it seems pretty real to me.

But as for barefootin', I haven't done that since I was a child. Maybe I need to "get back the garden" and try it again.

Ah, but yours is spelled with an 'i'. Ours is special, with a 'y'. ;)

Shock Horror... you mean we aren't the only Sidneysiders in the world!! :p Naw... I am sure there are dozens throughout the world, I had just never heard of one in Nova Scotia.

Actually we don't even live in Sydney anymore, we moved 70kms North a few years ago, but it's just easier to say Sydney, as most people know (roughly) where that is :D

Back on topic, or well be in trouble from the barefoot enforcers :o

I am going to go to our local Mall this weekend barefoot! It will be a first for me.

LOL, trying to remember the last time I went barefoot.

Oh yeah, I was walking the beach. Hard to not go barefoot there. Liz

Very true! Such a great feeling barefoot on sand, might go to the beach this weekend and play in the sand and water with my bare feet.

Barefoot enforcers? Haha, I think you'll find we're a very easy-going lot.

Enjoy your trip to the mall - all those cool shiny floors :)

hehehe :p

the shiny floors don't bother me, but the bitey escalators to get from the car park to the actual mall do :o Those things are scary with shoes ON.

I have to go up the street ( to get a pic ) ... we have a public park with baseball fields and there is (or at least was) a sign stating dogs on leashes and footware required... :-( in a park...

I need the barefoot committee to make my town hall feel berated by and angry mob. This is a barefooted call for help.

Escalators are easy to deal with if you remember the golden rule of walking in bare feet - place your feet, don't slide them.

:( Where I live we're not allowed in public buildings without footwear.

We live near the beach so it's no big at our small local mall, no one looks twice... but it is at the huge Mall not that far away, they have a strict dress code which they do enforce...probably to actively discourage people walking in straight off the beach with just thier swimmers on I imagine :p

Thanks for the advice re escalators Kier! Will be watching where I put my feet very carefully - I really don't like them at the best of times, unfortunately this mall has no public access stairs from their carpark to the main shopping level, only escalator or elevator.

I can understand a dress code that says no swimwear, or shirts required - around here if people tend to remove their shirts it's because it's hot and they are sweating - and I'm not a great fan of brushing up against some guy's sweaty torso in a crowded supermarket. On the other hand, I have little sympathy for footwear-required rulings unless it is unsafe to be barefoot - any by that I don't mean 'there might possibly somewhere one day just maybe be some broken glass on the floor'. Anywhere that allows people to enter wearing flip flops should have no problem with bare feet - they offer about the same level of protection and exposure.

As far as escalators go, with the exception of the start and end of the stairway, where the steps feed out and disappear under the floor, which are easy to step over if you are paying attention, they are really not that hazardous at all. Bare feet are very sensitive to inhospitable surfaces, so if you place your feet down rather than sliding them around it gives your body plenty of chance to make a correction if you are about to step on something injurious.

A lot of the reason that places have the rules for no shirt/no shoes is because it might be a turn off to other customers shopping there, which I can see as a valid point in some places.

I live close enough to the beach, and places where its not uncommon for someone to not have a shirt on (Skate park during summer = nearly have to have a shirt off to dry off due to heat), so they're pretty lenient unless you're going into a mall, or a restaurant.

Now that is just sad, they have squeezed any fun out of going to the park haven't they :(

Much of the time that is due to junkies that'll leave needles out, or if there is broken glass from beer bottles. I think thats common for most parts in the United States.

I thought Aussie beaches had very potent jellyfish and stone fish on them?
