.... I know people that live not far for there, they are saying the air is thick with smoke.

Loads of reports of a complete lack of police in many areas where it's kicking off - the Met police are now asking for more assistance from neighboring police forces, such as Essex, Kent, Surrey, Thames Valley, etc.

Got some friends in Thornton Heath saying they can see a glow in the sky :( And they have relatives stranded who cannot get to them. Again, how is this a protest against the Police if you are impacting your community?

The mob has never been known for its intelligence or logic.

Tell me about, this is the time that I pity our democratic society. I cannot say what I want as this is a business forum but suffice to say, they should follow the way of the dinosaurs. Really I am so embarrased and I just know the same will happen when the Olympics are about to start.

Is the UK one of the european countries that bans guns? Riots like this make me really glad we have the 2nd amendment, and that people know you will use it here in Texas!

Taken today by one of my mates who works in Birmingham.

A picture speaks a thousand words.

I feel like the news is conveniently leaving out details about the riots... they say "youths"... are they referring to young muslim immigrants (similar to the previous riots in france, etc.)? Seems like there is a lot of politically correct wording in the stories I have read about it...

No creditable news source has made any reference to young Muslim immigrants because it's totally irrelevent to what's currently going on. The incident that sparked these riots had a racial element to it, a black man was shot dead by a predominantly white police force, but that act and the subsequent riots have nothing whatsoever to do with Muslim immigrants. In fact the only Muslim connection I've seen was a local Muslim shopkeeper overseeing the re-glazing of his shop front which was stove in by rioters earlier this evening.

I live in London and I've seen some of the rioting at first hand. Those participating are generally teenagers of all colours and creeds and their intention is to create havoc with the added bonus of taking home a stolen television courtesy of the local electric store. Why they are doing it I don't really know and I doubt they do either but it has nothing to do with Muslim immigrants.

I can't believe how fast this has spread tonight to over 50 different locations across London plus major cities like Birmingham, Manchester & Liverpool - it's like the whole country is going to hell in a handcart. :(

Yep, you can see plenty of photos and video coverage that shows all skin colours and races involved, some seem to be blind to the simple facts, it's clear what their agenda is and not something that should be encouraged.

The escalation is quite frightening. I've heard reports tonight of people waking up to find rioters and looters in their homes. Others have had their homes set on fire. I dread to think where it might end.
