Anyone planning on getting an iPhone 4S? (was iPhone 5)

Why would I need more storage on my iPhone? Its not like I need to keep my music or movies on it anymore. iTunes Match will stream all of my content.

Oh right, so what happens if you're on the road for a while then, or on holiday - happy paying the data network charges for streaming content (which it appears it doesn't do anyway)?

And I'm sure some people have maxed out their storage and wish they could upgrade the memory themselves.

At the end of the day its about choice, choice to swap batteries, choice to upgrade the storage, choice to not use iTunes.

With Apple you don't get any of those choices, they're imposed on you by Apple.

It depends on what model phone you have, but as far as memory, my iPhone 4 has 29. 06 GB total available and I probably use it more than most users, with 22 GB unused. I have probably 40 apps installed, ten books, 300 songs, 5 tv show, and probably 5 GB worth of business documents downloaded, plus the 50 plus emails with attachments from two accounts on it. So, at least two thirds of memory is still available. Memory, for me at least is not a problem. Battery could be better, but like I said before, with an external charge mophie battery, neither memory nor battery is a problem for me.

My biggest complaint is iTunes. My main issue is whenever there is an upgrade to iOS, I seem to have a problem with either losing data on apps, or losing artwork on songs, or having issues with apps after upgrade. This doesn't seem to happen evenly nor does it seem like a huge deal so far, but it does annoy me. Oh, one other complaint I have, my computer has a partition with the memory, I have less memory on my C drive than my D drive, and after upgrades, the OS always wants to default to C drive for new downloads. That is a pain in my ass (and is does not seem to matter that I previously, like 200 times (or so it seems), set D drive as the default. I have no recent experience with other phones (Android or Windows based phones), but so far, I really like my iPhone. All the tradeoffs seem worth it to me.

you can use any computer connected to the internet as a remote host for your music and videos....for any phone.

Also iTunes just happens to be the worst software for windows I have ever used and I will not use it at all ever again. Nope...I will just ftp into my phone and drag and drop my music over wifi.

Really...if iTunes hates you as much as it hated me...you should try ftping into your phone....MUCH faster transfers too..and you can do it from any computer with an ftp client.

iTunes Match doesn't do streaming.
In Beta 6, Match did stream audio and video without the need to download. That is 100% fact. In Beta 7, the feature was turned off, but we're used to that with the beta code. I expect we'll see a Beta 8 on or before Tuesday and then we'll know for sure if/how it will be implemented. There is some discussion on the developers' forum that it may be a hybrid approach: download the file into protected cache in chucks, discarding after use.

Next Tuesday, all questions will be answered. The only thing that seems sure is that Apple has kept their mouth closed, allowing the rumor mill to set expectations so high that the result is sure to be disappointment.

I believe Apple has already stated that iTunes Match is not a streaming service. It may have been used as such during Beta 6 but the fact that it hasn't done so since seems to more or less confirm what they stated.

With only a few days left until the official announcement, what do we know?

Chip: Dual core A5, 1.2-to-1.5 Ghz
RAM: 1 GB
Camera: 8 Megapixel
Storage: 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB
Network: WiFi and 4G HSPA+ (21Mbps on AT&T and T-Mobile - Sprint will be stuck at 3G - no LTE for you) [Qualcomm Gobi Baseband chips]
Form factor: 1/2 in taller and wider than the iPhone 4.
Mute Button: moves from top to the side
Screen: Retina display, 4-4.33in, depending on framing.
Improved voice recognition, adding facial recognition
Assistant (iOS5) - voice interaction with the iPhone. "Who is Kier Darby?" -> searches Wolfram Alpha and returns relevant info.
"Tweet, 'The Ides of March sucked big time!" and all your followers are warned that Clooney's latest film extends his suck-streak.
Here's the app BEFORE Apple bought it, improved it and integrated it:

"Take me drunk, I'm home" - WOW!
Controls: Wider home "area" for gesture support. Gesture-based file transfer between iPhone, iPad, iPod and iMac - sorry Windows, you suck.

Sorry, Android fanboys. This wins. When my phone becomes my 24x7 concierge, its game over.

The phrase my phone will hear most since I travel quite a bit - "Where is the nearest Starbucks?"
The one that will make me happiest if it works?
"Change my flight to the next available flight."
Which would mean it has to find my flight, figure out where I am, how long to get to the airport, the processing time, interface with the airlines to change the flight, making sure that I do not end up in a middle seat. If its that good, I'll need one less employee which will fund new iPhones for everyone else.

Yup, that Apple logo is everything.imo it defines a phone and for me it is the deciding factor whether i make that purchase. Android mobile device not having apple logo on back? I'll refuse to buy it.

Q: Why did you buy an apple product <example> ipad over a better specification device?
A: Because I can look cool playing games on my ipad and wear those over-sized headphones like in the uk commercial and look awfully trendy.

Walks in a shop

Customer: I'm looking to purchase an....
Shop Assistant: Iphone! Iphone! Iphone!

Fred you do make me laugh! Gotta love how these apple fan boys are so anti-android. Sitting and waiting for any opportunity to try and make a snide remark!

That app looks great in the video - Will it work anything like that in real life.....I very much doubt it!
Im guessing it will type incorrectly what a lot of people say due to accents, background noise etc. Get locations wrong and the table reservation service? Great, I wonder how many resturants actually use it? In the South East of England, only 91!

Know whats not on an Android phone? Apple logo.

Its +9000 to e-peen.

My S2 has an apple logo :D

untitled.webp

Lets compare to my S2.
Apple > S2
Chip: Dual core, 1.2-to-1.5 Ghz > check 1.2ghz
RAM: 1 GB > check, 1gb ram
Camera: 8 Megapixel > check 8megapixel camera
Storage: 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB > Check via micro SD card, which has MANY more advantages than apples crappy buy your phone size and get ripped off even harder price model
Network: WiFi and 4G HSPA+ > HSDPA, 21 Mbps; HSUPA, 5.76 Mbps
Form factor: 1/2 in taller and wider than the iPhone 4. > The ihpone 5 will be taller, wider, and fatter than an s2? The S2 was already pretty big. I see this as a downside for the iphone.
Mute Button: moves from top to the side > WOW?!
Screen: Retina display, 4-4.33in, depending on framing. > the Retina display is miles behind the Super Amoled displays, not to mention the amoled displays use much less power.
Assistant (iOS5) > Voice actions
Cost > S2 is cheaper.
Apple logo > see above.

So.... explain to me again. Why would I want to pay more for an inferior product?

There really isn't much of a comparison. Will it work like that? No, better actually. Apple took the app as it was, licensed Dragon technology and drastically improved it.

Here's an example of what it can do. I have two employees, Carl and Jeff.

"Check Carl and Jeff's calendar for Tuesday at 3pm. If they are free, send them a better request. Subject is 'XYZ Company Quote'. Body is 'We will use my conference line. Please have final configs ready for review'."

Guys, this level of voice command is unlike anything in the industry. I'll grant you the benefits of SD card support. I think you're wrong on the display and I'm not alone:

But at the end of the day, when you combine gesture based controls and Assistant, there is no comparison. Let me know when you can issue a voice command and then follow up with a second that operates within the context of the first.

The Apple haters just can't stand it, can they? :ROFLMAO:

A Galaxy S2 is a good phone. Its just not the best. You'll be okay.

I have to admit. I tried that voice search on my husbands htc desire today after watching that video and it fails miserably. Nothing like the video I saw so that is complete and utter BS. I suppose though, back to the apple emblem, if that were to be attached it would be significantly better. But seriously, voice search on android, might as well not even be there.

You let me know when you can do that example of yours and you may have a point.

As for your links... they are null as super amoled is superior in technology. This is a proven fact. Not someones opinion.

I don't hate Apple, I just think people who worship them with no reason apart form some stupid idea of brand loyalty or image are idiots.

So once again,

Why is an iphone 4 going to be better than my already released s2?

Are you sure you have that right? I have posted facts and you have just given your opinion.

Superior technology in what respect? Power consumption? Absolutely. Thinner? Sure.

Resolution and clarity? Absolutely not. Galaxy S2 is 480 x 800 pixels vs. iPhone 4 960 x 640 pixels - and thats the iPhone 4, not the larger screen on the iPhone 5. At 326 pixels per inch, it exceeds the limits discernible by the human eye.

When you present something as "proven fact", its best to actually use a fact or two to back it up.

Why is an iphone 4 going to be better than my already released s2?

I'm sure you meant iPhone 5. I'm also sure you meant "soon to be released" Galaxy S2, unless you are referring to just Sprint, which of course doesn't have an iPhone.

But on AT&T, the Galaxy S2 is releases tomorrow, the iPhone 5 on 11 days later. It won't be available on Verizon, but the iPhone will. Should Sprint get the iPhone - which seems likely, the lag is a whole 14 days.

Seriously, not much of a selling point.

And to answer your question more pointedly, anyone with an iPad, Macbook or iMac can appreciate the integration of technologies and data sharing in a way that those still working with an inferior Windows computer can't.
