Anyone planning on getting an iPhone 4S? (was iPhone 5)

Tbh, I'm considering going to a non-smartphone when my contract expires. My iPad does everything I need except talk and text, which I don't need a smartphone for.
I can't see continuing on with two separate data plans indefinitely.

Wifi tethering on an android handset would give you the best of both worlds

They had Chargers when you were in high school? You that much younger than me sonny? Always been a Mopar man myself. Ram/Cummins now.
Chargers, Challengers, 'Dudas, Dusters, Darts, Demons. Had them all at one time or another. From the slant six that could be flat out abused and mistreated for 200,000 miles, to a 2011 Hemi in a Charger R/T. Not to mention a half dozen Rams and ranch trucks and tow vehicles.

I think my ass would blister if it sat in the driver seat of another make.

Wait until after the announcement. We have confirmation that Sprint is getting the iPhone 5. Sprint's unlimited data plan will force AT&T to follow suit or lose customers to Sprint.

The larger screen for the iPhone 5 is confirmed as well. Size is 4 inches. Improves power usage, resolution and pixels per inch, proving that the claim that the Retina display couldn't continue to improve is hogwash.

Nobody knows for sure, but by adding a half inch to the width and height, it seems likely that the screen is going to change from the 3:2 aspect ratio to the 4:3 aspect ratio used on the iPad., which gives a 1024x768 screen resolution and exceeds the 300 pip that the eye can perceive.

This could all be rubbish if the report out of CNET France is true. They are reporting that the iPhone 5 will come with a Sharp manufactured qHD screen that comes in 960x540 pixels and measures about 4.2 to 4.3 inches diagonally.

Tuesday needs to get here quickly.

Just before posting, I decided to do a little more investigating. I now believe the CNET story.

As it turns out, Sharp is going to be producing the iPhone 6 screen for 2012, converting LCD TV factory Kameyama Plant No. 1, for the production of low-temperature, poly-silicon LCD screens for iPhones. This screen technology could also be used for future iterations of iPads and iPod Touches, making the devices much lighter and even thinner.

In a p-Si LCD, the thin film transistor (TFT) of the screen is made of polycrystalline silicon, allowing the display drivers to be mounted directly onto the glass substrate, shrinking the TFT section, reducing power consumption and resulting in a thinner LCD display.

With that said, I don't believe that the iPhone 5 will be 960x540 pixels. I think it will either retain its current aspect ratio and result ion or change to a 4:3 aspect ratio and a 1024x768 screen resolution. It wouldn't make sense to 1) abandon its retina display commitment, 2) go to less resolution and market it as qHD and 3) force developers to rewrite app code.

Damn good episode of startrek TNG.

Anyone else have an intense desire to give the back of Wil Wheaton's head a larger phaser burn. Maximum stun setting, just below kill? Anyone?

In all fairness, it might be because I worked with an inept, bungling Air Force officer who could have been his twin.

Another negative of the iPhone 5 without 4G, which AT&T is seizing upon - no data while you are on a phone call. You'd be surprised how annoying this is, especially when tethered or driving and using your phone as a GPS.

You can't access an ordinary wifi hotspot with it?
What Jad and EQ said. If you're away from a wifi connection, you can't connect w/out a data plan.
It cannot be tethered through an iPhone, or Android or any other phone.
Which is why I like the MiFi hotspot. I can connect up to 5 devices i.e. iPads, laptops, etc. to it.

Why can't it be tethered through an Android phone? They can create a portable wifi hotspot exactly like MiFi
