Most users have dark mode as the default style but many users prefer the light mode for forums.
I want to keep Light Style as default and give the option to users if they want to switch to the dark style because light style matches with the colour scheme of my forum’s content.
Admin should have the ability to choose the default style for guests similar to the functionality provided in this add on
This is not so obvious for mobiles as, for example, I prefer dark mode for my mobile browser's UI, and light themes for websites. And every time I visit a website with auto detection feature, or when I log out from such a website, I have to manually switch it back to light theme. So a website does not really know my preference by detecting my browser's theme. I would agree if it is about desktop theme though.
For brand identity purposes and uniformity. In fact what he is suggesting is the way most websites operate that I visit. Take Facebook for example. They offer Dark off/Dark on/Use system settings. Use system settings must be explicitly selected once a member, the default is Dark off. Guests and those...
Disappointed that 20 years of my sites "dark theme" branding is now thrown to the wind due to a forced change by the Xenforo team. Fails entirely to allow the ADMIN to make the decisions to what default/options exist for their business.
I have....only effects guests apparently, so every current user (10,000 active per month) would need to re-set their default - OR, I get stuck reworking everything to play nicely with a light theme. I'm gonna work with Russ again, I'm sure he's got some magic. Working on my dev site in the coming weeks to see how this all plays out.
The default style is light with a dark variant. Styles do not need to have two variants. You can have a dark style with no ability to switch. It’s a per-style thing.
Correct. If one of them signs up, they start one the dark theme as fill out the form, they submit for verification and it goes light, then dark once verified.
Existing members still get the default light no matter what XF or the add-on is set to.
Now that the option is there and we spent the time making a light version I want to offer it to members. It’s a cool feature, it’s just not quite working as we expected.
