A private email solution

I've been running my own mail servers for my personal mail but it is getting a tad expensive.

I was wondering, what do you guys use as a private mail solution? All I want is something that does not personalize my ads and totally deletes when I push delete.

I also want something dependable that I can use with MYNAME@mydomain.com.

    You can use:

    - Google Apps ($5/user/month, 25GB, Google Office Suite)
    - Rackspace ($2/user/month, 25GB, mail only)
    - Open Xchange ($1/user/month, 2GB, mail only)
    - FastMail ($10/user/year, 250MB, mail only)

However if privacy is a concern to you I'd recommend you to keep your own server and use something like https://mailinabox.email/ or https://github.com/andryyy/mailcow or https://owncloud.org/

Anyway, here's a great list of software to self host your own stuff: https://github.com/Kickball/awesome-selfhosted#email

Google Apps is used where I work, and I would highly reccommend it. :)

But I'm not sure how Google goes as far as privacy as highlighted by @JulianD

AFAIK it analyses email content to add it to your advertising profile and resells that information. Basically the same as microsoft does.

Fastmail may be cheap but thats no enough storage in this day and age.

Is there any private solution that does not require you to host your own dedicated server or VPS like I am doing now?

There's a lot of options actually, for example amazon SES for outgoing email, if you want both outgoing/incoming you may like namecheap private email service as low as $10 per year, I haven't tried them but looks decent to me, I don't know if you can use that as smtp or not.

This private email stuff is more complicated than I had thought. I have been looking into it. Thanks for all the links all. Keep sending me any data you have. Looking for cheap, reliable and private mail I can send in the name of my domains that is private to clients 1 on 1.

Just use Google Apps. The scaremongering is pathetic. Random Google employees couldn't give less of a crap about what you ordered on Amazon or what business documents you sent to associates, and such information would be less than useless to them.

I am using Zoho for my site and its doing what I need it to do and was pretty easy to setup. Since I am using Centmin Mod on my VPS had to look into another option for email. It's working pretty good for me so far. https://www.zoho.com/mail/

Hmm, that looks cool, I did not know they had a free option.

Yeah it actually works very well. I'm running Centmin on my VPS and because I am doing that I had to find another option for email. I saw on the Centmin site @eva2000 highly recommended it and @MattW thought highly of it so I decided to give it a try.

Why don't you move to a cheaper server, or are there none?

I bought a $60/yr VPS (sociopath) for my email when I switched to Centmin, works well for me :)

Well I'm on the free plan with Zoho so I don't pay any extra. For what little as I would be using it for it works perfectly for me.

I pay more than that per month... is there a cheap managed host you recommend?

I don't use managed hosts, so no :)
