When you have paid for it and the transaction is complete, your "timer" starts, and not like 3 or 9 months later when it goes 'gold' status. You can use the beta live, it's just not recommended to be used on a production site, seeing how it's a beta and all.

Since it's a normal license, there's no timer for how long you can run it, only for the access to updates and support.

Question,

When does the license start? Does it start the day you purchase the "Beta" product, or the day you recieve the "Live" product?

From this announcement.

"As an additional incentive to adopt early, licenses bought during the beta period will have 12 months of updates and support starting from the date when XenForo 1.0 is released as a stable and supported version."
