To make an update for this:
Mike wrote that this is a browser bug with IE9. I've been trying this out on IE10, and the issue exists there as well.
So if it's a browser bug, it seems like it will continue for the entire duration of IE10's lifetime.
Meanwhile, the issue does not exist on VB4. Granted, they implemented quick-edit differently by just opening an inline text box, but from a feature perspective, you can perform quick-edits as many times as you wish. This seems it is still out of reach in XF, for the entire userbase that uses IE (10, 9, and earlier). I wouldn't classify this as a "resolved" issue.
