The new Forum Copilot app is out on the
App Store and
Google Play (version 1.1), and add-on 1.10.0 brings the forum side. Since our last update here (1.8.5), the app has been rebuilt from top to bottom.
Sign-in, sign-up and two-step on your own website
On forums running add-on 1.10.0, members now sign in and sign up on your forum's own pages, opened in the phone's secure browser sheet:
- Everything you have set up just works: Google and Facebook, passkeys, two-step verification, your captcha, registration fields and terms.
- Safer: the browser sheet is the phone's own Safari or Chrome, kept apart from the app. The app never sees a password or a two-step code; it gets a one-time code from your forum and exchanges it for a session. Members' saved passwords and passkeys are there as usual.
- New members come straight back: after signing up, your "Thanks for registering" page shows Continue in the app, and they are signed in.
- Two-step members stay signed in after signing in on the website. Before 1.10.0 they were signed out after a few hours idle.
- Members who prefer a password can still use it in the app ("Sign in with a password instead"), with two-step and "Trust this device".
The app, rebuilt
- Your forum's own look: its logo, colours and header, in light and dark mode.
- A reply bar under every topic and conversation. Drafts are shared with your website's editor.
- Reactions: tap to like, press and hold for your forum's own reactions, see who reacted.
- Links to your forum open in the app.
- Android notifications in four channels: messages, replies and mentions, reactions, other.
- A clearer two-step screen for password sign-in, and many fixes from reviewing every screen on Android and iPhone.
What changed in the add-on (1.8.6 to 1.10.0)
- 1.10.0: sign-up on your website comes back to the app signed in, and a "Not you? Sign out" link. Two-step members stay signed in after website sign-in. The app's own sign-up form now respects your spam protection: forums that show guests a captcha send sign-ups to the website, and the registration timer and "discouraged IP" checks apply.
- 1.9.0: sign-in through your website, drafts shared with the website, notification channels, and your forum's colours and logo in the app.
- 1.8.12: posts held for moderator approval are shown as waiting, not as published.
- 1.8.11: reactions other than Like are counted correctly, and on XenForo 2.2 the app shows who reacted to a direct message.
- 1.8.9: watched-thread alerts and pushes keep coming after reading in the app; one push per direct message on 2.3.
- 1.8.7 (security): the app honours XenForo's board-wide access checks. A member who lost "View the board" or was banned after signing in could keep using the app.
- 1.8.6: no more debug lines in the server error log, unless the new Diagnostic logging option is on.
Upgrading
Upload the ZIP in
Admin CP → Add-ons → Install/upgrade from archive. Any 1.6.0 or later install upgrades straight to 1.10.0. There are no database changes. 1.9.0 adds two options under Options → ForumCopilot Options, and their defaults suit most forums; 1.10.0 adds one template modification and a class extension. We are recommending this upgrade to every forum because of the 1.8.7 security fix.
Each version was checked by upgrading XenForo 2.2.19 and 2.3.7 test forums from the previous release and running the full live API suite on both.
