I want to set up a 64 draw tournament of my sites favorite tv shows. Do I need the roster addon in order to input team names?

There is no specific guide no.

If you wanted to create such a tounrmanent, well maybe using the free input thing would be the way.
Note though that the add-on allows users to register so one tv show = one user.
What you are trying to achieve doesn't seem to be exactly what our tournament add-on is made for.

Well, it's simple, when a user registers to a tournament he inputs a name.
Basically, he registers to the tournament with a pseudonym.
