never mind. uncommented ;extension=gd in php.ini and it solved the problem.

Of course, local SSL certificates are always self-signed, and therefore the browser will give me that "not secure" message.

I have no issues with with the self signed cert.

The browser displays the site as a regular SSL secured site.
