Of course, local SSL certificates are always self-signed, and therefore the browser will give me that "not secure" message.
There are ways to avoid this, see this site (for Mac) for reference:

(see "Self-signed SSL")

Used Service ("mkcert") homepage:

It works for me on Mac; I guess it should work for Windows as well. :)

P.S. sure, it does:

I have no issues with with the self signed cert.

The browser displays the site as a regular SSL secured site.

Hiya @Paul B

Many thanks for the excellent guide - works perfectly!

Quick Question - If i wanted to install a "backup" Xf onto this to locally test functionality rather than installing a completely new copy, what would you say is the best way to do this please?

Want to get a mirror image of my current site (2.2.16) running and then look at upgrading it to 2.3 before i do it on the real site

Cheers

Once the xampp environment is set up, just import the database backup and copy the site files.

Full instructions here:

Thanks Paul,

Have completed all of the steps, however when i head to the "local" version (http://localhost/community/) it opens the non-test "real" site...

In fact, it seems anything i try to access on the test site takes me back to the real site...

Any suggestions??

Cheers
