Thanks to Mike persevering with my monster server XF is now installed. I'm feverishly looking for video tutorials or something to help me get started. But I can't find much on how to get going. Can someone guide me?

I'll definitely install another template as soon as I hear back from people; do any changes I now make to the default template get 'carried over' to the new template or will my work be gone? Just want to double check that nothing gets lost...

Thanks for your help in advance! :)

Here's a good place to start: http://xenforo.com/help/manual/

Not really sure what you mean by that.

Installing customs tyles and mods in xenforo is very easy. All you have to do is upload the folder and import a xml file. If you would need further help with anything, just ask in the forums here.

Thanks Borbole. :)

Brogan, I found those already before but the 'have-you-seen' videos are snippets of things here and there. The manual is too overwhelming and technical for me, great for vB and IP converts but not good for forum virgins. :p I'm 99% visual and need videos or pictures (oh dear, I sound like a man now)...

[hold back the hate mail please]

Are there no step-by-step videos? As in step 1: do this, step 2: do this?

go with the default template until you find yourself familiar.

Thanks everyone! Peeked around, pushed some buttons, even got to create and link a FB page to the forum, wasn't as nerve wrecking as I thought it would be (and look, I'm still alive).

Was confused about this parent/child/tree/node thing. Need to re-read this a few times.

My overall goal is to have different membership levels and call them Silver Moon for free members (everyone has to be on this level just to get into the forum), Golden Sun for a fee per month (when the forum is ready), but they will have access to a private forum offering a lot more one-on-one coaching, access to eBooks, etc. But I can't quite figure out how to rename the membership levels to what I want to call them.

Also, can things like the 'trophy' be renamed and be called 'stars' for example?

The parent-child relationship is a simple concept; a child inherits the characteristics of the parent, unless you explicitly override it.
Create a parent style and modify it.
Create another style as a child of that parent style and it will inherit the settings of the parent.
However, you can also override that by modifying the child style directly.

You will need to create user upgrades http://xenforo.com/help/user-upgrades/ and corresponding user groups http://xenforo.com/help/user-groups/ to achieve what you want.

All phrases can be renamed to whatever suits.
