XF 3 General Information & Discussion

Just to avoid any further speculation, the release of XF 3.0 is not imminent. Work on it has continued parallel to 2.3 but there are a lot of moving parts and the new default style is essentially a from-scratch rewrite (of the style) with lots of under-the-hood changes. Kier has been and is primarily driving the development of the new style.

I have been primarily driving the development of the new editor which is at an advanced state but I haven't worked on it for months due to work continuing on 2.3.

While XF 3.1 was discussed, work has not begun on that yet.

In truth, we are at least 2-3 months behind where we wanted to be with 2.3, but that is very nearly out of the way so that will free up a lot of dev hours to work towards what comes after 2.3.

That's good because having done a lot of work in 2.3 more or less rewriting various custom styles to work with variations, I wasn't wanting to start all over again for 3.0

i will not be spending money license right now as i will wait until 3 is released.
the 3 version will be where i look to spend on as it seems to bring some new stuff.

When it comes to 2.3 being released you won't be able to get to it until you have renewed your licence.
As it says in your email you miss out on any support and any upgrades until you renew.
The only support you will get will be on here.

He knows.

I mean that’s available to everyone at no cost as long as you manually patch with the instructions we provided.

And what of the recent security update?
from looking at past security release issues the send out a patch.
looks like you do not have to upgrade to fix security issue.
which is a good way to do it.
upgrading just because of a new version not always the best.
if your site works with what you have why rush to get newer version especially if money is limited.

Well, no, that’s not how that works if you’re on a self hosted license.

We haven’t “sent out a patch”. If you haven’t applied the patch then your forum is susceptible to a pretty nasty issue and you should follow the instructions we provided to ensure that is fixed.

you make patch available for access, sending it from your system for others to download.
pardon my english today, i am heavy dose of oxy due to my feet acting like a canyon.

To be honest I was quite impatient with the XF2.3 release already (paranoid me checked the forum multiple times a day 😂). Waiting for XF3 will be even worse now, especially because we do not want to invest too much resources into XF2, since it is more or less an "intermediate" step for us (we upgraded from a 2014 release of XF1 to 2.2.15 only in March; so breaking the design more than once for our forum users would be too much).

But time will tell.

It will be interesting to see how long the beta period is on XF 3.0. I assume if the PHP changes very little then it will be shorter than typical.

Fair, but do you think that a few years after xenforo 3's release, the underlying code base might not be optimal or modern anymore?

We STILL don't have a 3.0 release date ??
I mean c'mon, 2.3 was released today.

:LOL::LOL::LOL:
( pulls tongue out of cheek )
