XF 2.3 ?

Sounds like a demand you want that may not be met.
Just wait and see what happens.
Where was the "demand". Simple fact is that bug fixes are typically rolled out in point releases (x.y.Z). And that it would be nice to see a bug fix release soon as there have been plenty of documented bugs, some of which cause issues that are "show-stopping" for some people.
Upgrading core functions to a newer version of what exists is not replacing.

Stop with your trolling.
Not trolling, but fact... if you are worried about the impact of a file you downloaded getting infected by YOUR computer. You have issues on YOUR computer. And, BTW, those are not "bugs". Those are infections due to a non-secure computer.

Something has obviously happened to delay that. Regurgitating something over and over again isn't going to make it happen.

For me problem here isn't the release speed of 2.3, it is the lack of communication from xenForo.

If the development team do not have time to engage (which is fair enough), maybe somebody should be brought in to handle these sorts of things.

I agree they need to work on communication, but I do not think they need to do so until after 2.3 releases. The people who currently make the decisions and are the most familiar with the business, development status and plans are currently Kier and Chris; bringing on someone new would require getting them up to speed and having to approve any communications prior to publishing which still requires Kier or Chris to step away from development.

Kier did communicate the status of development, as well as why there were delays and the state of the business. It is safe to assume that it still stands, and that things are still being worked on.

My issues with this thread (and other threads) have been:
  • People wanted communication; they got it, but an ETA was missed.
  • Because of missed ETA people want further communication, which further puts development behind (Kier probably spent a few good hours minimum writing the last communication).
  • Because people experience FOMO, they are now theorizing that XF will lack innovation and go under in the future... Even though XF Cloud is its own new product and prints money (10 Cloud customers at $60/month are equivalent to 45 new self-hosted customers (no addons), or ~75 renewals with all addons).
Honestly, the best thing for XF is for them to continue to focus on XF2.3 which is they are/were close to finishing, get that out and release an update to 2.2. From there they should also address the community concerns and bring on someone for communication and re-work their development strategy to keep this person abreast of things so that it can be communicated with little involvement of development.

People like to do a comparison to IPB, but people forget IPB was a much more mature company than XF (IPB2 released in 2004, XF opened the site in 2010), and have had time to grow their team and business for a longer period of time, so they have already gone through the growing pains XF is dealing with now.

He’s really not. If you’re afraid of downloading any file like that, the problem isn’t the file… same as ever, if every single instance of something you see is a problem, maybe it’s not the everything that’s the problem.

And if you are worried about infections by downloaded files that aren’t even executables (since a Windows computer cannot run the XF software without the PHP tools installed, there aren’t any executable files in the XF download), that even more points to your computer having a problem. A zip file on its own cannot infect you, it’s just a container of things.

No it's usually when you unpack it and try to install it i've had to redownload the file.
That tells me that there is a bug in their system.

There is no bug with the zip archive, downloading it from XF, unpacking, or installing.

I have done hundreds of installations without issue, using multiple devices.

Why do people complain about them when they have issues on their site?

Maybe because some use an FTP transfer program that fails during uploads of certain files. That's not a failure of the archive... that's a failure of the delivery software.
Could you get a corrupted download? Possibly... but that's not the archive causing the issue, it's the transmission format being used by you. Could you have something that examines downloaded files that corrupts it after it "peeks" into it... yep... but once more, that's not the fault of XF.
I know of one that was WELL known for transfer issues when uploading to a remote site... FileZilla ring a bell?

the upgrade built in system is better but it can show up a dodgey file.
I've been told to re download another file of the same if it doesn't do the job properly and that happens mostly.
i could very much have a virus on my computer that trend micro has not found.

i do my own now too. But have still encountered faulty installments both here and on vbulletin.
Same advice given over there redownload the package you want and unpack it on your computer.
When installed you can get caching issues, (which is caused by a bug in the file), to issues where your url doesn't load.
When these happen i don't bother with using the forums i get a support ticket.

I've installed hundreds of sites and never had that issue, Sounds like you're FTP is not finishing the upload if that's what your using, If you have a control panel upload the complete zip file and unpack it on the server.

As said above there is no BUG in the XF files.

caching issues are NOT caused by a "bug in a file".
It sounds like what you do is extract to your local computer, then use an FTP program (refer to my earlier post about uploading issues) to upload those individuals files to your site. That is not the most effective way of doing it. Generally you can upload the archive itself to your site, extract it there then copy/move the files over. That way, those individual content files are not exposed to any possible "nasty bugs" on your system.
And now, with the current ability in the ACP, even that is not necessary, including for most add-ons.

I completely agree. But the problem does eventually need resolving. I too would wait until after 2.3 to make any adjustments necessary, but going forward this does need significant improvement, IMO.
