XenWord Pro [Deleted]

Now i'm getting a blank screen after I create a new post. The post is still created. It doesn't show up in the forums at all like it used to. I didn't change anything in wordpress. The only thing I did to the plug-in was add an avatar to the login widget php file. And style the recent threads a little better. And I did change the xenforo urls to make them more friendly as @Gregory Lynn suggested. deleting the plugin completely and re-uploading it to see if that helps at all.

EDIT: Ah ha! Figure it out. It was an incompatibility with an xF add-on "Sticky First Post". Apparently, the plug-in had not been updated in some time and was no longer functioning. It caused an error each time a post was created.

I'm confused on where to manage user roles for wordpress. I have an admin that says he doesn't have access to certain parts of wordpres CP. And how can I assign users to be Editors, Authors, Contributors etc...

Basically what i'm trying to do is have users that have "some" access to wordpress admin control panel so they can post articles and such.

I honestly don't know and the developer has been MIA for 19 days now.

Apologies if this as been asked before, but the screenshot on the product details page here states that the lifetime license can be used on unlimited sites, yet when checking out you ask for the site that it will be used on, could you please clarify if this is a one site or unlimited site license,

Again sorry if that's a dumb question,

Many thanks in advance Andrew

I figured out where to manage user roles. Unfortunately It doesn't seem to work and the users who are granted author, editor etc.... don't actually get those privileges.

Well...I was going to pick this one up....since two bridge authors bailed. But reading the comments above...I guess not. Are there any good WP bridges out there?

Have you watched the videos on setting the roles up? Some people are telling me they help.

Now, I'm seeing all kinds of posts regarding roles. Roles are very easy to setup and do work. Try this video.

LOL. No I'm not MIA. I only have one hour a night to work on XenWord and a select few individuals who paid good money deserve my attention. Unfortunately these few good people are taking up the time with questions. One person is nearing the 150 email stage while the other is over 100. Their questions are all answered first before coming here. And - they are both clear that they won't watch the videos :)

When will I be able to dedicate more time?
I cannot spend more than one hour because I've taken a job in another city. The house is not ready for sale and must be sold so I can move. This means driving 6 hours a day. Believe me - the house needs to be sold so the move is done and normality is restored :p

If you believe that you need help after purchasing the bridge and believe that the videos are not helpful -- then I am not insulted if you try other things first. Otherwise, everyone who purchases deserves full attention. Hopefully these fine folks taking up the hour will be settled.

Everyone should understand their issues, too. In case that scares you. All errors have been due to other plugins. XenWord is designed to show errors. So coding errors are shown. This really throws people and they first blame XenWord only for it to be another plugin. Some are easy fixes and some require the plugin author's attention.

PS. No emails were ever sent to me regarding this thread. Very strange. Hopefully @tekboi and I can get his site up to speed.

@tekboi - please send me a PM if you still run into problems after watching the video. Don't forget to email me too if you need a 1 on 1 session with me.

This isn't a dumb question. The checkout form does not change based on the license you choose - so it is set as a default to one URL. You can fill in the main URL you use and feel free to go from there.

Ah I see I screwed up. I had Contributor and Author set as Primary roles w/ no secondary. But when I set them as secondary it seems to work!

Good news :)

Yes, all WordPress permissions are done through the XF secondary user group.

WordPress 4.0 Testing
Do NOT upgrade to WordPress beta 2. The developers tied cookies and sessions together. This was discussed last year and finally done. This means logins will work but posting, upgrading, installing plugins, etc will fail because the nonce is not set. You get a "Are you sure you want to do this?" error.

https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/20276

I'm going to look for a fix on the file doing the login. For now - do not upgrade to WP 4.0 beta 2.

I just noticed this, and it's probably not an easy thing to fix. But we have private hidden forums on our board where admin discuss things that we don't necessarily want in the public forum, but on the widgets for Most Recent Threads and Popular Threads, it shows them still in the list and it's starting to create some confusion.

The title is showing? Permissions are set for only those with permissions to view the thread see the title. Have you double checked that even someone not with permissions is seeing the threads?

I am about to purchase, though just want to make sure that it will work on my Linux apache server?

PHP 5.3.3
MySqL 5.0.95

It shows to users who are not yet logged in. I guess it's not a huge issue.

Let's hope it isn't something silly that I've done with the code. Let me take a look.

WordPress 4.0 Beta 2
I'm trying to figure out how to fix the bridge for WordPress 4.0 release. Ever since the developers changed cookies to include session information, this bridge fails to post properly. Upgrades also fail.

Just checked 4.0-beta2-20140803 and the problem remains.

The more important issue is the structure of the files. The files for WordPress and XenForo need to be on the same server and you need to know the relative path of the files.

Best structure for the cleanest install:

WordPress is root
XenForo in /community

Hello @LPH, I've had to temporarily disable Xenword as my users and I weren't able to go to previous revisions when editing a post/page in WP. Whenever we clicked on it it would take us to a generic WP permissions error.

We're on a multisite setup - any ideas what may be causing this?

Please choose one user (an XF user you want to be able to edit),
make sure the secondary user group is set properly (this may be "WordPress editor" in XF usergroup),
Re-enable XenWord,
double check that you've mapped that secondary user group to the WordPress permissions you are after (editor or administrator).
Logout with admin user
Go to domain.com/wp-admin.php
Login with the above XF user
Go to any post and try to edit

Now, just to confirm, you are NOT trying to use WordPress 4.0 beta 2 and above. Right?

Please see this video for steps on setting up a contributor.

1. Does it work across different domains? Let's say the Wordpress website is at website.com and the forum is at forum.com?

2. Are the databases of the forum and the WP different?

3. What would happen if unregistered users would comment on a Wordpress article. How their post would be copied to the forum?

4. Let's say I already have articles on my WP website and threads for these articles on my forum. Is there a way to combine them with this add-on?

Thanks.

Hi, unfortunately not. The plugin relies on cookies (this is why WP 4.0 b2 isn't working yet) and security would require the domain be the same.

2. Are the databases of the forum and the WP different?
Sure. They may also be different or the same.

3. What would happen if unregistered users would comment on a Wordpress article. How their post would be copied to the forum?
Spammers are so bad that I don't like this type of configuration but a few people are using a guest account created using a custom role WP plugin. I tinkered with the idea but don't have anything solid.

4. Let's say I already have articles on my WP website and threads for these articles on my forum. Is there a way to combine them with this add-on?

Yes. This can be done manually through the thread_id field. I tend to move things around quite a bit. I've fooled around with an easier method (non database changes) but for now the database is the only way.

Hopefully this answers all of your questions.
