Yes, there are also the Oxy addon, the custom home of borbole, that works if you just need to have the lastest threads in homepage...but if you to show contents of Resource Manager, Xenmedio, Xengallery and other addons and widgets, there are only 2 choices for you now: Xenporta & Extraportal.

False.

Widget Framework

---which, I might add... is much more developer friendly. Other devs don't have as many issues working with it as they do with XenPorta... plus, main thing.. it's supported.

No... Featured Threads is much nicer lol

I'm also prefer Featured Threads because is very simple & customizable (i'm not a customer, but soon i will buy a license), but you have to understand that FT is created for different needs. Example, with Featured Threads i can't choice a forum that automatically promote threads to portal, i can't set widget and and and...it's an addon created for different needs.

Widget Framework

You're right. The WF is one of the most important addons of Xenforo. And the support by @xfrocks is simply great!
I think that Extraportal + Widget Framework is now the best alternative to Xenporta.

But again, i ask: why there are not an addon that permits you to post articles & news in home? (Like Avforums.com).

Not yet...

Chris D has specifically requested that feature so he can use it on valvetime.net in place of xenporta (ironically), so it's next on the list.

However, this thread is now way off topic so perhaps someone would like to start a new thread discussing the relative merits of the various portal add-ons?

Someone care to explain to us non technical folks how version one popped up almost overnight yet version two requires thousands of dollars upfront and months of development? Serious question.. I understand the code will be vastly improved etc, etc.. However one would assume that with a few years of studying the XF framework this project although improved wouldn't be nearly as difficult to code as say version one when the coding elements were a new adjustment.

And before anyone accuses me of being impatient i'm legitimately curious how that works..

Think he was calling everyone involved suckers lol.

That's a good point Fred. Probably should have been thought about before he got 5 stacks to recode something he'll probably be using on his own site which he seems more dedicated to anyways.

Edit: in all legitimacy, it's possible for recoding the same features to take the same amount of time the second time around. He's not starting from v1 he's starting from scratch. The claim of it taking a lot of hours for development is the last part of this situation that raises flags in my opinion.

i said non technical Sheldon..

I answered. Suckers.

He held the community hostage is all. Saying XP 2 would only come after $4k. People ponied up. He saw the opportunity to get money, he took it. He made a couple of soft-deadline posts (which none have been met). He gave no idea what it would be like, anything. He cannot even get a forum up for those that funded to post thoughts, opinions, suggestions. I don't wanna hear the garbage about "coding all day" either. Setting up a forum like that would take what... 1 hour? Or... the same amount of time he spent juking InFamous and recording it.

He doesn't care what anyone thinks at this point... ya know why? He has the money already.

As far as the code, it's supposedly a complete rewrite. Judging from what I have heard others say, XP1 was poorly written and not very compatible with anything else. Others had to jump through hoops to work into it. Some flatly refused. That may be the reason why it was able to be released so quickly.

Only time will tell if this iteration will be coded better.

I said this before but got told that nothing in here was off-topic...

I don't want to be the one that keeps moaning about this but it seems that people are being quite rude/disrespectful to Jaxel. I can't imagine some of the conversation in here happening in yours or Chris's Addon threads for example.

I've had my say so I'll leave it at that :-)

Jaxel will probably be back after he's had his fill of Dark Souls 2. He's just doing his hardcore gaming thing right now.

Haven't those been released though?

This one is in what stage? Oh, the talk stage.

Does that make a difference? I think you're being quite rude with snide comments in various threads which is even stranger considering you're not planning to use this anyway. I don't know what your problem is with Jaxel and I don't want to get into a silly argument over it.

That's possibly because neither of them put up a crowdfunding with the bare minimum information for something, but coded their addons and released them once they were ready.

Oh, you know my projects that are upcoming?

You also know what I have or have not supported via crowdfund?

You said before you'd never use this and made fun of people who had supported it. If you have supported it and are planning to use it then fair enough.

I can still never use it but pay for it. I have tons of add-ons that are purchased but not used.

I feel y'alls pain. My first Crowdfund was two years ago. At least we got to the beta stage. I won't donate to any crowdfund type projects until that one's completed. Heck even Robbo's abandoned Media Gallery had a beta.
