XenForo install question

We are going to re-install our XenForo again for some (private) reasons. Our root folder contains a Wordpress installation.

Where would you install your forum? On a /forum/ folder or a subdomain like forum.mydomain.com? Which is healthier for SEO and technical reasons?

I'm not an expert but I've always gone with a directory/folder because when you introduce multiple subdomains there's a kind of overhead cost fixing your site for any number of things (Think certificates) that treat subdomains as entirely separate websites from a technical perspective. With a folder I've only got one place to FTP files to, etc.

Yes, SSL certificates may be a problem for a site.
