XenForo Community Its Been A Minute

So it's been a minute since I have used XF since Beta and I am now looking at a new project (XF seems a good fit) but I have some questions for the community as I am no longer up to date with XF Development or current status, public opinion or DM's are welcome.

1.) Has the lead developers changed
2.) Is Brogan (not sure if I remember the name) still a moderator who steals my and others code and post it as his own ? (Why I left and have negative feelings about XF + other things I felt a mod should not do to a customer.
3.) Is Shelly still doing artwork for XF
4.) How did XF resolve the issue with Florance after the mass deletion, did XF just not allow deletion or did they reach out to the developer and diplomatically make things right
4.) Does XF still use hooks for devs
5.) Why should I reconsider XF in 2024
6.) Does XF support mass email or when SHTF do XF devs still use third party email services to alert users in mass rather than implementing email best practices rather than sending all emails instantaneously
7.) Is Shawn still here... DP

Cheers for your replies and thoughts regarding the current status of XF through the optics of a Beta customer who left XF shortly after my code was re-authored by a mod with no credit.

Thanks for your time

With all those issues, I don’t think XF is the best option for you.
Hang on just a sec, I have made custom CSS themes and customer requested XF apps and alterations. I should not enter this space again? Let's maybe go over the issues from the past and show me the improvements of a project such as XF over time.

This reply did not answer any of my questions or help with a purchase for my customers. But yeah maybe we should develop elsewhere if XF has not grown

1. Mike left, Kier is still here, Chris has been here for some years.
2. He is still a moderator. Don’t know about the claims of theft. Would be highly surprised if true.
3. Don’t believe she’s been around in ages.
4. No idea.
4. Yes, hooks and class proxies are still the way to go. Vastly better than some other forum systems that do automated find/replace that break your forum if not careful.
5. Not sure you should. You seem to have a few very large grudges against the leadership and direction of the project and those haven’t substantially changed.
6. Better to use third party services that can actually focus on doing the thing, though addons exist. (Coming from a platform that supported this, allegedly, in core, it’s only worth having in core if it works better than a dedicated service and I haven’t seen that yet in any platform, including the one I used to maintain that sent millions of newsletter emails a month)
7. Yes.

Ok Go Reaction GIF

7. Yes.
Thank You
As for MOD chech out the keyboard CSS theme approach, yes he optimised my code but my post was never given the respect of the first person to implement a CSS keyboard theme on XF. Mod took that and never gave credit.

So much was deleted by the same mod I don't care to check the past. Feel free to prove me wrong but I will always know

Calm your farm for a sec.

I'll tag a few people on here.

@Paul B is still here. As is @Kier who's most likely watching from a far.

You make some serious allegations without any evidence. So if you wish to be taken seriously, why don't you start being so?
How long you been here ? Search brogan and his CSS keyboard theme, if that post is still public facing it will show how he derived my CSS Keyboard theme without any credit.

I am seriouse, I wish to know the current state of XF as a developer to decide if this project advances help for devs or is a cult community that doesn't care about progress

Then why come back?

Even if this is true, you said you don't care, so why bring it up? And even if it's true, how long has it been? You hold some serious grudge, so therefore I think XF is not your future.

@Paul B you're needed here.

If you posted it as a post, it’s fair game for anyone to tweak, as it ever was.

There are plenty of dissenting voices who will tell you that XF doesn’t care about progress. I’m not sure they’re all wrong, but combining that vibe and your position, I’d suggest finding something else.

I am not interested in a roundabout convo because YOU feel some way. I am interested in Development so yeah I came back to check out a platform I supported with CASH while XF was facing a hefty law suit, now you want me to be in the dumpster fire that is XF, if you want developers then this is a stooped question asking why I should be considering XF as a platform again.

With many platforms for Devs to add-on to why would you be asking why I am here asking some historical questions in regards to the rise or fall of XF as a platform for me to develop on

Yes but I think coders can all agree that posting code improvements for said software on their forum should be given credit if a mod plagerises that code because they did not give credit. Pretty simple brah

Maybe XF will just delete my posts and account and yes I will just throw my time and coding at some better options as suggested

Lol. Pre Sales Questions and every long term member so far has basically told me to kick rocks. No thanks for early support or welcoming further third party development to the platform.

Not to worry because I am not purchasing a product that demands a massive amount of cash for a code edit to customise the footer contents.

Kier, congrats on the long jepordy in a competive market as well as surviving a trial that would have seen many others in the same position fold.

Just seems a shame that the community these days don't see past achievements or welcome past Devs that coded for many sites using XF.

I think with the responses so far I'm out, with what is charged for a footer edit I'm further out of inputting time to code for this project.

This is not how I remember the Pre-Sales Forum because it used to be about help.

Unfortunately hese long-term members in this thread have now ruined that experience

Thing is, you said he “optimised it” which could mean anything in terms of rewriting it to the point that there’s nothing left but the intent and the outcome - at which point credit is merely nice, not required. Especially if it had to be rewritten due to core changes.

Reality is that coders reuse each others’ code all the time, see CodePen, see StackOverflow, and credit is rare. In any case, if you’re still concerned over it from nearly 15 years ago, it’s time to move on.

Credit isn't hard bro, and I argue as a business platform yeah give credit for a customer giving up their time to better inform the community of what is possible with code that many users were unable to for themselves.

15 years ago, wow that's how long ago I (NOT U) supported XF with my hard earned cash to support an upcoming idea that went against the main current platform that had Kier in a hard situation.

Let me know what you have coded so I can "optimize" your efforts and not give credit
