In current Xenforo 2 demo, the reset password form can not receive "username" as input.
It only receives "email".
My suggestion is at least there is an option to allow admin to enable username to be used to reset password.

In gmail, you can assume your email address as :
this.is.my.email@gmail.com
or
thisismyemail@gmail.com
or
thisis.myemail@gmail.com
or
t.h.i.sismy.email@gmail.com
It doesn't matter, all mails sent to those address will still be received in your gmail inbox.
When a user registers to forum, he may forget which dots combination that he uses.
If he can't remember which combination it is, he can not reset the password.
But if he can input the username, he can reset the password.
