Xen Notices [Deleted]

On the flip side of that argument, my users have complained about the current implementation, and with multiple messages flicking through in the current notices box. Yes... lots of way to slow it, turn it off, etc... though they all come with their own issues uniquely.

The popup is a small, noticeable box, it forces you to rethink your content and often link to a more complete thread on the subject, instead of stuffing a lot into a notice. They can then close it for their session or dismiss it entirely.

Just been thinking and this is related to image notifications. I've noticed that with fixed images you are limited by the amount of text you can put it but I noticed the following

HTML:
<div class="gritter-top"></div>
<div class="gritter-item">
<div class="gritter-bottom"></div>

I'm assuming the two class gritter-bottom & gritter-top can be used as fixed images with the gritter-item being the repeating image on the Y axis chris? This would allow as much text in the notification as the admin wants to include as it would be set to repeat-y. I'm assuming this is what the top and bottom classes are for? or can be used for?

That's exactly correct.

The original version of this was made up of images but I turned it into CSS to make it easier to style. To make it easier for experts like you to style, I left the other divs in ;)

Excellent stuff Chris. :notworthy: *thinking out loud* I think I might need to do another revision of gamer 3 so that it will be a repeating .gritteritem though I think I'm going to have to lose the gradient or perhaps I can keep it in and get a workaround. Okay, thanks again chris got some plans for a more adventuorus design(s). (y)

edit: Sorted :D
edit again: hmmm looks like I'm going to have to make a template edit to get the title in the top slice.

Not even sure this is possible for you to accomplish or whether you feel it's beneficial to add.

Suggestion Would it be possible to have an alternative option to include the Title into the .gritter-top area?

I like slide-in/slide out better than fade it/fade out. Any chance it can be added in the future?
I will look, but the jQuery slide animations suck...

Also, it would require a pretty hefty rewrite of some of the code so I will need to consider that for a while longer.

I might be able to include this. It depends on how easy the jQuery stuff is to manipulate. I will get back to you on that one.

Any other ideas people?

I'm making very slow progress on this at the moment as one of the new features is pretty huge...

If I get more ideas sooner, then I can delay the major feature and do a smaller release with a load of smaller improvements.

7 updates last week, none so far this week. I can assure you that I am working just as much on it!

Don't rush it, if you push too many updates, you will just burn your self out, and people don't like to update their plugins all the time either (I think I just waited it out last week, and updated once or twice).

Yes, good advice. Thanks.

I'll aim for one a week, but there might not be one at all this week!

This is really off the wall and probably not doable. A kind of promote threadid notification.

Perhaps for promotion notifications the admin has predefined text and the threadid link auto inserts into the notification after the predefined text or it adds so many characters from that thread. The trigger for the promote could probably reside in the inline moderations or dropdown menu in threadview.

I probably didn't explain that correctly/very well.

I think the promote would be good for sticky threads, rules, new resource releases as reminders when they are pushed/promoted to notifications.

Keep up the good work chris and agree with magnusB release when your ready and certainly don't rush. (y)

I understand - and love the idea.

It kind of fits in well with what I'm currently working on.

I guess I might as well tell you all what I'm working on so you might understand why it's taking me a while...

It stems from this:

If this would support the ability to setup from thefront-end (rather than just the admin panel) combined with the ability to only let specific usergroups create them (and the ability to configure how many alerts can be sent on a daily/weekly/monthly basis), you'd be looking at something that could be a great way for premium memberships or site sponsors or something along those lines.

Perhaps also give admins the ability to add a small text and/or link to every alert to notify others how they could get this ability.

I'd pay for that. I'd say 15-20 bucks, perhaps more, depending on the extra features you might add.

So basically the concept is you will be able to create notifications without going into the Admin CP and it will be protected by permissions. This means you could give your moderators permissions to create notifications, for example. Another great example would be setting up a premium User Upgrade which promotes them to a user group which gives them permission to create notifications themselves.

I'm wanting to have a permission system which allows you to limit the number of notifications that can be created by each user, and possibly invoke a limit per page as well.

I haven't worked out all the ins and outs yet, but I hope people might find it useful.

And your idea, Shelley, is a very logical extension of it.

That sounds just awesome. If this works out the way you described it, I'll definitly purchase the add-on for all boards I run.

Sounds great Chris. I love how you are trying to incorporate almost all the suggestions.

Just to clarify this idea.

Are we talking about a button visible on a thread (based on permissions), that when pressed would create a notification directing to that thread?

Would the title be the thread title?

Would the content be a snip of the content?

Or would pressing it take them to a form where some of the data is prefilled, and it can be adjusted before making it into a notification?

Yeah, it would be the title of the thread title with the button viewable upon permission with the content be a snip from the thread content. To expand on this you would get a dropdown menu of the notifications styles/images that are available so let's say the admin has designed notification-a, notification-b, notification-c, notification-d for this purpose then this would be the notifications that are available for them to choose from if that's even possible.

Again sorry if I explained wrong still feeling like crap atm and not 100% thinking straight. but you understood perfectly about what I suggested earlier chris. :)
