Wordpress Drama

There is no pattern, it is clear that wp-engine's policy was to appear to be a WordPress service and not a simple generic hoster so by doing this it put itself in the position of being 100% dependent on Wordpress.org and Matt's moods.
If not you want to understand this thing I don't know how else to explain it to you!
If it was so bad that they were “pretending”, why was Matt a direct financial investor for several years??? Because they invested in WPE for a few years until selling their stake (bought by the private equity firm that is now so bad)

Here's hoping XenForo (example, not like they would) or some other software that @Ricsca uses comes to them and asks for a chunk of their ad revenue since that's their way of thinking. I mean you're using their product they created and all to make money, you owe it to them.

I didn't even know it existed. I learned about it from here. And when I first visited it, there was nothing that made me think it was the official WordPress site. It's just a matter of money. 💸
Because when you found out from here they had already reduced the use of the word Wordpress on their site...
They are a managed hosting exclusively for wordprss... they make millions of dollars so it means that many people knew about it...

Do you realize the absurdity of what you wrote?
If I open a xenforo forum and pretend to be xenforo.com, do you think I won't get a complaint?

Do you realize the absurdity of every time you post it is almost always misinformation.

Yet you persist in arguing with people who literally have offered services on Wordpress either as developers, designers or in some other role. Things that you have never done, and have no understanding of.

You argue with broken logic, and go around in circles and never post something with concrete facts and only your feelings and bias.

Like trying to talk to a toddler have a tantrum, but at least the toddler learns better behavior eventually.

There’s enough straw in that straw man to represent a country’s worth of wheat. (it’s not what we were arguing about, nor is it really the heart of Automattic’s complaint)

And you keep ignoring the rather important detail of “if it was so bad, why did Automattic literally give them money?”

Sorry, I didn't realize I was talking to Bill Gates...

Luckily the Judge ruled in favor of expediting the process for this case even with Matt/Automattic trying to do their best to "show evidence" that the claims are unfounded and the process shouldn't be speed up.

It kinda matches @Ricsca's profile picture. Photoshopped face on a body with photoshopped abs. False advertising on Tinder I would say.
But yeah, agree. I think the original comment is about the principle of supporting creators and developers.

Some people are best left ignored.
Who said that...?

Matt threatened legal action towards the runner of https://bullenweg.com

This is the final commit before it was taken down: https://github.com/bullenweg/bullenweg.github.io/tree/77295673c4e3e3c62e4e64e6299930b0798135df

Here is an alternative timeline: https://wpvswpe.report

I love that Matt cries about WPEngine infringing his freedom of speech, but he then tries to shut down a website that literally follows every point of freedom of speech and fair use, and does not infringe his name (would fall under parody). There's already been more backlash from people who were working at Automattic, so there are likely going to be more people leaving again soon.

Another WordPress core contributor stopping their contributions https://thefragens.com/wordpress-on-hiatus/

There have been quite a few who haven't contributed since the checkbox was added (many use WPEngine, or contribute to some of their plugins), they just haven't publicly announced that they will no longer be contributing.

The issue with WordCamp has been becoming a larger issue as well, as they're actively blocking sponsorships from non-Matt approved sponsors, and part of the severance packages was that you can no longer be involved with any Wordpress/Wordpress.org/WordCamp. For an open community, there has been more and more restrictions on who and who cannot be involved in said community.
