Why share buttons are at the bottom of a thread?

I think that they are not visible because you have to scroll to the bottom of the page to see them.

Are any plans to move it or insert the share buttons for example under the title of the thread or at the top of the thread?

I think it's a great place t0 implement a "share" page...

I think that the staff at xF thinks that it doesn't look good when implemented on the "top of the page." I think they think it would look ugly.

And I agree. It would. The only way it would not look ugly is removing the "share this page" and the line under it, put it under thread title/description.

The only time the share buttons look great at top is Jaxel's xenPorta.

Personally I prefer the share buttons at the top... While I *do* agree with the point about why would you share something if you haven't read it yet... there are other non-thread pages that also have share buttons (like the forum home) as well as pages that have no share button (but I think they should), like the forum page listing threads.

Now, if we had the share buttons on ALL pages, I think it would be best to have a place for them that's consistent across all pages... which means it can't go in the sidebar (not all pages have a sidebar). And for forum category pages and the forum home page it doesn't make sense to put them at the bottom.

Also, usually when you read a thread you know if you like/don't like it when you START reading it. It doesn't take you to the end of every word in it to normally decide if you like it or not.

You can see what I mean on http://forums.digitalpoint.com/ we have a universal placement for it that includes non-thread pages...

Forum category: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=52
Products: http://products.digitalpoint.com/vbulletin-sphinx-search.php
Tools: http://tools.digitalpoint.com/tracker.php
etc...

It doesn't make much sense to put the share buttons on the bottom of the non-thread pages... and at the same time we have the placement in the same location across all pages for sake of consistency.

It's a simple template edit to move them to the top of the page.

I prefer them where they are, it's a less cluttered look and keeps the emphasis on the content.

Conversely, if you do read something to the end and decide you want to share it, you have to scroll back up.

Your better having them located at the bottom, because if they are slow loading at least the rest of the page has a chance to load-up first before them.

You make the JS fo them load last regardless of placement (at least you should).

AFAIK the share related js stuff is already loaded AFTER the page load... (you can see this in xenforo.js in the init method )

Chances are people will know the share buttons are down there, and if they want to share, they'll use them.
An example:
http://xenforo.com/community/threads/xenforo-first-anniversary.20718/
189 thanks..
but..
38 like it on Facebook
10 shared on Twitter
4 shared in Google+

Statistics... less "shares" and more thanks (because the thank link is easy to click and its well located). The situation is repeated over and over..simply watch the most viewed threads on XF and you will se a huge number of thanks and only a few "shares"

You will scroll to the bottom of the page to like a thread?.. me not..
What I saying is that XF should consider to move the default location of those buttons

XenForo likes have nothing to do with Twitter shares, facebook likes, etc.

If by going what you're saying then the share links should be after every post as that's where the xenforo likes link is.

You share the thread, not the posts... So I´m suggesting to move the shared buttons to under the thread title

But then again... Why would you share the thread if you didn't read the original post, or the thread's posts...?

When reading a thread, you're almost like reading a magazine or a book, so those share buttons on the bottom is like saying "Hey guys, I like this article!"

I understand that these calls to actions aren't inspiring sharing. That's the only thing that makes me think.

The only people using the share buttons are the people that want to make that site successful, I.E. Mods and Admins.

Exactly! they like the article! So after read the first post or thread they say "wow..I like this article, I´m going to share it"... but I dont understand the purpose to scroll down to the footer to share the page. See examples on any other blogs or forums, they have the share buttons at the top or under the title

hoo...you are so wrong...have you ever used a Facebook account? I think you dont understand the concept of share something..
Look at http://mashable.com/ how many people use the share buttons...only admins?...come on..
