I never understood the desire to add a blog or CMS to the core of a forum. It seems what people really want is a CMS with a forum element. Either way, the secondary, or add-on element is always going to be less than the same element as a standalone thing. That cruel, heartless mistress history has shown us that time and time again.
Most people don't shop for a car that can also haul full sheets of plywood and a thousand pounds of reclaimed bricks because a truck is better suited for those things. Something that does both will always be a compromise.
Before you say, "But mjp, you wrongheaded boiled owl, it doesn't have to be a compromise!" you're right, it doesn't. Though I'd just say again, it always has been. So why keep turning down that same road when you know what's at the end of it?
In related news, I tied my left shoe way too tightly this morning, but so far I haven't mustered up the courage to reach down and loosen it, because then it will be too loose and I'll spend the rest of the day trying to equalize the pressure between my two shoes and that can only lead to disappointment and frustration.
