Why is enhanced search extra?

Considering getting an Xenforo licence for a planned project.

However am concerned that the new enhanced search is extra.

Any reason for that? Surely any decent search should be included as standard?

Standard MySQL search is included with the core software.

Enhanced Search isn't suitable for all sites as hosts typically won't install it on shared servers.

Because it is a license extension and a separate add on which can be installed on boards that need it.

A decent search is included. Enhanced search is for larger boards with loads of content, that need a better search system than the default one.

Perhaps a better question would be, why is XenForo so cheap?

The software pretty much rocks. They've got to get paid somehow, so they charge more for gigantic sites that are large enough to need enhanced search by listing enhanced search as an add-on. I've certainly never missed not having it and I still am amazed at how much we get for so little money.
