XF 2.3 Why is it that direct messages are showing up in search results?

I'm trying to figure out why it is if I click on a member's profile, go to the "postings" tab, and then scroll through all their posts, it also shows results for things they've said in direct messages (conversations):

I don't think it's add-on related as I don't have any add-ons that affect conversations to my knowledge. The only search plugin I'm running is XenForo Enhanced Search.

Thoughts?

The bug report is linked above.

It wasn't in 2.2 and it's caused a bit of inconvenience when searching for content for me and a couple others on the forums I manage.

It's not about your private messages not being private anymore.

Forgive me for being obtuse, I guess I'm just missing something here.

I read the bug report thread you linked to and that sounds exactly like what I'm talking about in my original post.

However, I've come to understand that the DM search results on one's profile can only be seen by the logged in user. In other words, I see my own DM results in the search but if I was logged out (or logged in as another member) I couldn't see them (instead I'd see their DM results).

Correct me if I'm wrong here. It seems then that it is not a bug (unless I've missed something) and that this is a more recent XF 2.3 feature that wasn't around in previous releases.

I do think that this is a bit of a silly thing to add on the part of XenForo (at the very least it causes a lot of confusion) and not necessary.

If it was a new feature, I doubt a staff member would post up a bug report for it tbh.

But I'd personally be against it if it was considered a new feature. It adds unnecessary content to searches that you'd have to skip over yourself and can even cause panic by other members thinking their private messages are exposed to the public like how you yourself thought it was.

I agree with you on this.

It's a useless, unnecessary, and confusing feature.

It caused me panic when it was first brought to my attention. I'm sure it won't be long before someone develops an add-on to remove it.
