Obviously it's difficult to understand the bug when its only description is "as discussed in Slack". But what you are describing is probably not related, the DMs present in the search results respect confidentiality, only members who participate in the DMs see these results.

I think it is safe to say that these particular search methods probably should only return public content. The "search everything" under the Advanced Search should exclude DMs also. The "Posted by" field to me suggests public content only.

DM indexing was introduced in 2.3, therefore it makes sense to return results when searching everything.

I was aware. It is a nice feature. One less addon that is needed. I thought the option to search DMs would be when you're actually in DMs, and choosing the option from the drop down. The "Posted by" terminology under Search Everything doesn't really fit for DMs. An option exclude DMs from the Search Everything would be nice.

I assume if a user doesn't have permission to use DMs, the search DMs tab on the Advance search page would not be there, correct?

Will this be fixed in 2.3.4? Getting many complaints when using are looking for actual public posts. The list is overtaken by DMs.
