Which database is a recommended option for Xenforo, MySQL or MariaDB?

We support MySQL 5.0 and above. As MariaDB is a drop in replacement for MySQL, this will work also.

I use MariaDB and its slightly faster than MySQL typically. It's leaner overall.

I'm new here and would like to set up a forum for market traders.

Has anything changed regarding the database since 2015? My situation is as follows:

I have shared hosting with METANET with the following parameters:

DB: MariaDB 10.6 (cannot be changed)
memory_limit: 768 MB
CPU limit: 250%
RAM: 4 GB

Does XenForo still provide mySQL as standard, or can I install XenForo hosting on my shared hosting account with integrated mariaDB?

Or would I need to make adjustments, and if so, which ones?

Xenforo has always worked fine with either MariaDB or MySQL as far as I know. We've running MariaDB for years, also because that's what our shared hosting provides.

It shouldn't be a problem, since MariaDB comes from the same developer. My concern was only what Oracle “might” () have changed in MySQL in the meantime, which could cause problems.
