What would you expect from a Christian forum?

No Jeff, there is no ambiguity about it, the slaves referred to in the bible are owned. They are not paid servants. And killing a slave is punishable under certain circumstances, not all.
Quick question for you. Could you ever be persuaded that your religion is false?

I disagree Stuart. I have good evidence for that. I feel its better we discuss scriptures at another forum.
'No' is the answer to your question. I have witnessed supernatural events (through my little sister), things Bible talks about eg accurate prophecy, tongues. It's difficult to argue against experience. Unless you see it with your own eyes you won't believe it. ;) It's these things that got me very curious and wanting to learn from the Bible.
 
The quickest way to become a non-Christian, is to carefully read the Bible. And by reading, I mean understanding what you read, and drawing conclusions based on common sense and science. Slavery is just one of many examples, and not even the worst. Talking about it is not nearly as effective as reading the scripture yourself. And there is still a lot of reading to do, since studies have revealed that just 10% of Christians have read their holy book. I urge those 90% to buy a Bible now if you haven't already, actually read it, and if after going through the Old Testament you still think this god deserves to be worshipped, I will have to conclude that there is no way I, or anyone else will be able to convince you that what you believe is nothing but nonsense and fairy tales.

Please understand that I'm not posting this to provoke or offend anyone, there are people (also atheists) that do, but I disagree with such behavior.

The Bible is a history of the nation of Israel (not the modern nation that hijacked the name) which consisted of many tribes of peoples, history contains wars, the destruction of many peoples that were pagan nations, the enslavement of ancient Israel and many other 'history lessons', it also discusses the 'lost tribes' of ancient Israel which many Europeans don't understand, the thing they don't understand is that many of them are descendent's of the 'lost tribes of Israel'.

Probably best if we don't try to debate those sort of topics here, but instead to keep it about what Jeff asked in his first post.

Anyway to answer the question, I would say that a way to talk about beliefs and interpretations of the Bible in a way that doesn't automatically assume anyone is wrong but instead encourages people to discuss it in a sensible and calm manner. I think that once the debate becomes overly charged and emotional it tends to spoil things and no one learns anything. That's the same for all topics that people have strong beliefs about, and it'll certainly be hard to achieve, unfortunately.

Edit: But I think that if you try to encourage those who are not of Christian faith to your forum you will have to accept they may have very different views and that could lead to tension amongst your members.

I know it's best not to discuss such topics here, trust me I have constrained myself from posting about it many times already ;) Just wanted to throw in my two cents on what Stuart mentioned. It's only natural to expect critique when you're asking for an opinion. But I know it will not improve the atmosphere on XF, so I'll keep it for other places in the future.

Hmm, Maybe include a section for your charity work (if you or your members do any). This might bring a few more people in.
Also maybe a section dedicated for people to post pictures of themselves for people to pray for them (a visual hits home)

But to answer your question, I would expect a christian forum to be mostly centered on and around christian beliefs, So without argument or debate I will just say that it is not for me and as a fellow XF member I wish you all the best with your Christian forum....
 
My goodness, some of you are blind. Obviously religion has done a great deal of good in this world. Just look around! It certainly doesn't need to be put down by the likes of you atheists and socialist Obama-care liberals. You can't just read the bible, it must be explained to you by someone who understands what it really says. You all need to check in to some Christian forums and get your heads straight. Otherwise we're all doomed. I don't know how else to say it. I am praying for you.

But this shouldn't be discussed here. Come to my Christian forum and share your testimony. Bathe in the blood of martyrs. Dance around the May pole. Shoot guns in the back yard. It's okay. All are welcome. Just leave your money in the box on the way out. Selah!
 
Suggestion - A Charles Darwin area, More specifically his fact on evolution, natural selection, carbon dating fact or fiction etc and so forth. Explore, ask questions, think, refine.
 
If someone could show me empirical evidence that there is a God, I would change my mind and not be an atheist any more. I have an open mind.
On the other hand most religions people, if asked, state that they would not change their mind no matter how much evidence was presented or how strong an argument was. They are not interested in whether or not their beliefs are true. They hold them anyway, usually because they were indoctrinated by their parents at a very young, impressionable age.
So there is usually very little point in debating with religions people. As House put it,
if you could reason with Christians, there would be no Christians.

The off topic forum does not mean every thread within it can be taken off topic, it simply means the threads do not fit into any of the other forums.
The subject matter of each individual thread is treat the same as for any other forum.

If you want to start a thread about beer, go ahead.
 
Yeah, yeah, I know, just wanted to see who deleted my post :)

But to be (almost) on the topic this time: If there is a God, I hope he ll send me to hell, place of sin, with all the parties, girls, drugs,..., and other things which are far away from believers.
