In its various forms (usually akin to Japanese anime), it's supposed to denote the ultimate cuteness with an eyes closed smile. As opposed to :3 which would be with eyes open.

I don't get the chance to do any animated smilies nowadays (such as the times have changed) unlike years ago when I used to design tons of animated smilies which convey that little bit more character.
