Well done KAM

It's great to see XF go from strength to strength, and I think with the latest release it is now a very good proposition for large boards. I think I will be moving my largest vB forum over to it this year.

Just a few quick questions - is there a way to deal with bounced emails? This is a pita for large boards.

Also is it possible to switch to (via user options) a simple editor? This one is crawling on Opera.

How is everyone else finding XF? Anyone who switched from vB - are you or your users missing anything?

While I'm at it - any good links to guides for devs to get accustomed with XF?

*faints* :giggle:

Hey gorgeous :D

I miss nothing, but you know this already becaue I've sang XF's praises to you regularly.

@Chris Deeming and @King Kovifor have written some nice guides - http://xenforo.com/community/resources/categories/development-tutorials.36/

Hey sexy :p

Funnily enough, it was you who sold vB to me all those years ago - remember on TAZ? We ran riot.

Thanks, I will definitely check out those guides!

Tick or untick:

Thanks! Now why didn't I see that when I looked earlier (only thing is it's a bit too simple - no smilies button!)

Shellllllllley! I think if you and Azh were involved then I totally believe it :p

Are those your smilies in your avatar? Loving the style!

Yep, those were the days Azh...

haha - yeah some good times at TAZ azhria got me into trouble *runs* That may not be entirely the truth :P

Yeah designed those a while back. not yet released though I'll eventually get around to submitting them. :) Good to have you here anyway @Razasharp

Regarding XF - Mike, Kier & Brogan have done a great job with 1.2 and I personally find 1.2 the best of the updates so far as it really does mature xenforo amazingly well and brings in some nice features that were missing. Styling wise, it's the better of all the paid products imo and a pleasure to style and update, especially updating. I can't recall any update taking me longer than 5 minutes so in that area it really is light years ahead of the other software.

I can assure you that moving your forum over you'll have no regrets but wonder why you never did it sooner.

Personally I feel, Mike, Kier, Brogan, Ashley, Slavik, Jake, KK and everyone else who have been involved with XenForo have done a great job. Hats off to them for such a quality product that has only been on the market for three years and surpassed all other competitors in terms of sheer quality and intuitivity amongst other areas.

So what's brought you to XenForo.. Mr Ruby?

I can assure you that moving your forum over you'll have no regrets but wonder why you never did it sooner.

I guess there are a number of reasons. I haven't been well :( In fact the last few years have been a bit of a nightmare. My dog getting cancer, spending a year trying to get him well while not being well myself. Then my health going down the pan, then my dad dying  The docs are useless, they don't know what's going on - but I am trying to help myself, spending a lot of time researching etc, it's staggering actually, how little many consultants in the UK know - and worrying how much they actually get wrong. But anyway, that's a topic for another thread.

So all this has delayed the custom site I had planned to replace my forum - it's still on the cards, but the forum now obviously needs updating so the choice really boiled down to XF and Discourse.

DIscourse is the Ruby/Ember(JS) forum app. I like it, but, being a new product they just don't have the years of experience that KAM have when it comes to forum software. It's not just about the end user, it's about the needs of Administrators too - and I think it will take a while for Discourse to get that essential piece of the puzzle right. Of course they have other positives, mainly, huge support from some very good professional developers. It's going to be a very different type of forum - and right now, I don't think it is suitable for my established communities. New forums, I will definitely be trying it for a few new forums I have in mind, though.

That's not to say XF is perfect either mind, I can definitely see a few areas which can be capitalised on or improved - I'm sure I will be annoying the team with my threads about those at a later time :D

I was referring specifically to the software, but yeah agreed - I am sure they are doing a stellar job as well. Jake was always awesome at vB (I used to PM him all the time for vB help and he was always so helpful!) I am sure the rest of the team are too.

Just thought I'd add my two cents as usually the other people are overlooked and the work they do for the xF.com and the software as a whole is invaluable and I think this is another reason for XenForo's success.

No probs - it's always good to spread the love :D

Hey there old friend, sorry to hear of your life woes! Hope things are improving for you and it's good to see you 'round these parts. :)

I agree, XenForo is doing a wonderful job.

@Razasharp welcome back to XenForo :)

Hey Adam, John - thanks, and it's good to see you guys - hope you guys have had a better last few years than I have.

Some wicked XF themes on your site John!

Xenforo is more secure than vBulletin and has the better customer support. In the beginning we were missing the CKE Editor because TinyMCE sucks but now that we have Redactor editor we believe it's the best editor out there and yes you can turn it off into a simple plain text editor in the postbit and in your Preferences but you need a modification to do it by default, board wide.

Still no official CMS but Xenporta by @Jaxel , BD Widget Framework by @xfrocks , Widgets Collection by @lms and XenMods Widgets plus Promoted Content by @Daniel Hood is probably way better than any CMS integration out there.

Still no official blogs but Better Blogs by @Rigel Kentaurus is the best thing out and Daniel Hood will be integrating it with his Promoted Content addon soon. Promoted Content is awesome btw because you can move the blocks around with BD Widget Framework. I personally use it like a huge annoying notice. See my blogs for example.

Still no official gallery but XenGallery by @sonnb has been the best gallery I've seen on any forum software and it just keeps getting better. It's his only project at the moment so he's focusing on it to be the best gallery ever. I wish I could link you to mine but it's members only until sonnb adds a feature I asked for a couple days ago. This gallery comes with great widgets that are configurable with BD Widget Framework and Daniel Hood will let us feature albums in Promoted Content soon.

What we're missing from vBulletin 4....

We're missing a darn Shop addon. I'm not talking about a digital marketplace. I think Microcart is fine. I'm talking about a shop addon that lets us do stuff with points. Here's a long thread about me complaining about it here if your curious. We also need a good Casino addon. There's one developed but he won't release it to the public. My Casino Addon Request Thread. Arcade needs lots of work. (no alerts, comments or points tied with trophies unlike the arcades on vBulletin). Daniel Hood will add a latest champion scores widget for his XenMods Widgets addon later.

1) Thanks for the shout outs on my addons. I'm always open for suggestions too.

2) The term CMS is thrown around these forums entirely way too much. XenForo is a CMS. It lacks a bunch of the content types by default but it is a damn fine "Content Management System". bd Widget Framework adds the one absolute core feature required for a cms and that's customizable blocks. Everything else (your blogs, articles, galleries, etc) will be added in time I'm sure, but it's a very solid CMS to build upon as a developer.

3) I'm working on a shop but I'm sitting on the fence of if it'll released as I'm making it very specific to the needs of http://xenmods.com and it's strictly for digital goods (zip files, basically replacing fetchapp for myself).

4) I doubt I'll make a full casino, but I may end up making a couple of card games at least against the computer, possibly against other players.
