XF 2.1 Welcome to XenForo 2.1 / Assorted improvements

Welcome to XenForo 2.1!

We said there would be something special accompanying the final HYS in this series for XF 2.1, and here it is. This is your first opportunity to help us put the new feature set through its paces.

We also said there would be a number of other miscellaneous changes/improvements to show you, so read on for more 👇

I'm planning on just going live with it hopefully when r6 is out (tomorrow?).

Doesn't seem to be anything major but can you downgrade if needed?

Certainly, if it was our issue to fix. If it was an add-on that doesn't work with XF 2.1, however, that would be down to that add-on author to resolve.

To be honest, rather than going into it blind (and this applies whether the product is stable or not), it'd be smarter to do a test upgrade first.

@HJW Well, we've upgraded from XF1.5.23 to XF 2.1 and I can say we're not having problems about 2,5 million posts. Actually I have to say that was pretty awesome. It is very fast, lovely and nice. Yet you have to remember that this is BETA software. If you're curious, take a full backup of your forums and just try it. That's all. Anyway. As a result of this, I really want to thank you @XenForo!

Me, too. I've been using 2.1 since the beta5 came out and everything is running smoothly on my live forum.

Great minds think alike. :) Congratulations. I've been glad.

But as far as I see, some users are worried about upgrading from stable to beta software. Perhaps, they have a point. Because there are users who prefer a good rating. Indeed, although the use of some beta software can cause some problems, I can say that there is no need to worry about the change. That's the reason why XenForo is awesome.

And as you well know, the only thing that doesn't change is change itself. In this case, feel free to try it. However, there is something I don't understand. How long does it take to back up a forum? Is it really that difficult? How long will it take to download and restore it again? Anyway. No matter what, backups are extremely easy to keep and restore. It means take a full backup of your forums and just try it as I said.

Greetings.

I am still on 1.5 and have styles that need updating so I'm going to do 2.1 beta 6 in a dev (that is currently running 2.0.13), get the styles fixed, then I'll look at when to do live.

I work in IT and using beta software in a live environment just isn't how we do things. Betas can be incomplete or buggy and I don't have time to figure out which betas are "safe". I see no reason to treat my forum differently. I wouldn't use anything less than an RC in a live environment. Even in a rare case where I was going to use a beta in a live environment, I would test the hell out of it in a dev first.

Bug Bot indicates the next release may well be Release Candidate 1!

Thank you for reporting this issue. It has now been resolved and we are aiming to include it in a future XF release (2.1.0 B7/RC1).

Tempted to upgrade a live site when it comes out, but will still do a test run first. Still need an update to the content ratings add on from @Xon first though before I can do that, as I think that's the main important add on left for me that's not been claimed compatible by the author.

I tested xF 2.1 and it doesn't work well on php 7.3 - on admin.php and forums i have error:
  • ErrorException: Fatal Error: Allowed memory size of 805306368 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 5236185166756096736 bytes)
  • src/XF/Image/AbstractDriver.php:355
but with php 7.2 xF2.1 works like a charm :-)
