vb5 beta released, and...

Some posts are verging over that line of outright bashing guys... take it down a notch.

Thanks.

I think nobody here should post the "code" or "code style" of VB.
This might be dangerous regarding the lawsuit ?
You might want to remove those bits in this thread ?

Be careful guys !
As we all have seen in the past, VB is making screenshots of postings made here at XF and using those screenshots against XF in the lawsuit.

I'm just waiting to get some more funds, hopefully soon here I can unload this vB4 junk onto someone else lol. xD *cough* I mean, sell it to someone that really really needs and wants it...and doesn't mind having it, of course. ;)

Once I upgraded to XF I gave away - you heard me right - my vB 4 license. Didn't even try to sell it.

edit: This by no means; mean that there will be one. So if you're (generally speaking) crazy enough to try vB5 .... Don't do so expecting a way back

I am not that Crazy. Well, crazy yes but not that crazy

Edit: I sold my vb4 license right in Time, almost as xf started. So, never look back?!

They seem to have a very strong opinion about you giving them your opinion of the product.

I simply said that I thought their 30 support was useless because most people would 1st need to design and customize things before they even attempted to port over their community. A staff member crossed out my comment siting that was not true and I replied that it was a matter of a opinion.

Guess they do not believe in constructive criticism. My 1st ban ever (anywhere).

Hehe looks like they dont like the truth.. Its a bit like the Trueman Show. A show at least it is ;) IB against the world

I found one good thing that vBulletin 5 does, it dropped the members list. I wish XF and IPB would follow that good example. Members list = useless waste of space / spam magnet.
Our members like to check post/karma/like etc ranking, you need to be able to search for members, easily see a list of them. I don't think it's completely useless. But it could be upgraded to something much more useful. As mentioned here.

yeah, the mockup of "Princeton" was absolutely great. Unfortunately the image of his mockup was deleted..... :(

This was a source of a lot of confusion, and complaints.
mmmhmm.
There are 4 ways to display content. Originally, it was being displayed as "Activity Stream." What we as forum users and admins are used to is the traditional thread display. This is found under the tab "Topics." This is a setting that the admin can set (default view), you can also re-order the tabs as well.
Well, this morning. They changed the default display when you clicked "Main Forum." Before the change, they forced you to go to that stupid activity stream by default when simply clicking Main Forum.
I agree the default view they had was bad...really bad. But that's only an option, not a forced view. And after several complaints, they've changed that view to the more traditional forum display.
When installing the vB5 package, is this the default display? Because if it is, it's actually forced. They're trying to force an idea on the customer - you.

Heh, I saw that post. You really got banned for that?

To the best of my knowledge, yes.

The only other post after that was when I asked in another thread if blogs were gone.

In reply, Paul M had made a sarcastic comment on how "useful and amazing" he thought my post where. And I jokingly replied that my comments were useful and sadly far in between and that I should make an effort to post more often, because I wouldn't want Paul to be disappointed.

I then proceeded to explain (in the same post) that I simply asked it because the the demo wasn't loading the tab for it. And that it was now and clearly was a misunderstanding on my part (with what information I was getting).

I doubt that could be seen as "arguing". A little humor and misunderstanding that's all. So I'm banking on the post before it (which was about the support policy)

But you be the judge, search for TheVisitors.

Okay so we all think it's a train wreck. But let's discuss some of the stuff that is different. And I apologize if these were touched on earlier. I'm afraid I didn't read through all 12 pages of this thread.

The biggest I can see right away is the ability to comment on individual posts. I'm not sure what purpose this really serves other than to have off-topic tangents confined to a singular place. Is it really any different than just quoting and posting? It brings up a lot of questions like "What will this do to page lengths?" or "Can you quote from the comments into a new post?"

The stream or whatever it's called has been changed on the demo site so that it's not the landing spot. But I don't like it anyway. It's confusing and unnecessary.

I like the way that in your profile they allow you to make your own colors and stuff. If you like a dark style then by all means do so. Of course, when I tried it out it didn't change anything and took forever to do nothing. But if they got that working it would be decent.

All in all I agree that it just looks unfinished. From a user standpoint (not an admin) I could use this software if they got the speed working better. Imagine if this were a big board. Hoo boy.

I was looking through all of the vBulletin main pages... and found that they raised the price of.... Mobile.
Mobile Suite
vBulletin Mobile Suite provides native iOS and Android mobile apps customized for your forum. These apps provide an optimal means for your mobile users to engage with your site. Includes mobile moderation capabilities and supports mobile ad monetization. (Note: Mobile Suite can be used with vB 3.7.5 and higher and vB 4.1.2 and higher, not yet available for vBulletin 5 Connect.)
USD $149.00 cost includes one year of support and upgrades
I don't know if that's a good idea to raise prices if it doesn't work on the version that the price increase is supposed to be intended for. (n)

Good thing you weren't awake when this beta went live. They forced you to look at the activity stream first before anything else.

This is to be expected from vBulletin. This kind of response is the SAME kind of response I got at ForumCon when I simply asked:

"What do you think of Kier Darby?"

Their response: "Huh? I donno what you asking?" You don't know? My @$$.

I had to repeat:

"What do you think of Kier Darby, the founder of xenForo?"

Stunning answer: "Oh, they're in litigation." Oh, you get it now? They walked around my question.

So, really, not surprising.

I mean, this is the same company that says "No! Because panda didn't like blogs!"
