Users getting alerts to other people's posts

Any idea what could cause this? Two users on my site are reporting that they've been getting alerts to threads that they have had no involvement in whatsoever.

Sounds like they were quoted from a thread they are or were involved in, but it was posted in a thread they aren't involved in.

I'm confused. Would such an action generate a user alert? What you're describing sounds like simple copy and paste to me.

Here's an example, quoting you from another thread:

There appears to be no way to "like" something from the "new media" (or "recent media") block at the bottom of the forum.

If you have alerts switched on, you'll be alerted to this quote. OK, you are involved in this thread but if I had posted the quote in a thread you weren't involved in, you'd still get the alert.
