As designed Username email user criteria is a filter, not a username

maybe this is how it has to work, but is misleading.

If you send email to users, and put in a username in the username filed, it applies that name asa filter instead of an actual unique username.

For example if you put in Chris, the email will not only go to Chris D, but also Chris56, Chris Trump and Jesus Christ.

Also, it seems highly unlikely there can be any possible reason for an email list to be made up based on the string of characters in a name.

It is a search for any user whose username contains the letters "chris".

You're right, it is a rare search criteria for sending an email, but the user search system is used in all sorts of different contexts including actually searching for users where searching for a user whose name contains "chris" is definitely a much more reasonable use case.

I agree, it's useful for a general search but misleading if you think you are sending an email to a specific username - which is what is implied

So if it is just a search, maybe it should be labelled as such so as to be clear that it is not a filed for usernames (as implied) but a serch with a spefified filter.
