Usergroup settings > Node

I have configured a node's permissions to disallow 'Registered Users' from being able to view the node. This setting disallows all users from viewing the node unless one of the groups they are in explicitly has view access configured (even though those additional groups have never had the privilege to view that node revoked). Could I get some insight as to how the Usergroups work in XenForo ?
