XF 1.4 Usergroup promotions question about the existing groups

Hi folks,
so we have

• New Members -> Members once they have 1 post + 24 hours registered + 3 positive post ratings.
• Members -> Active Members once they have >=50 posts
• Active Members -> Well-known Members once they have 75 trophy points
• Well-known Members -> Distinguished Members once they have 150 trophy points

In each of the above I have set up to apply the promotion while the user is in the usergroup being promoted but not in the usergroup they are being promoted to.

Is this necessary?
Does having this make the promotions run more/less efficiently?
Are there any ramifications on demotions when the above logic is applied to all the usergroups up the ladder?

In each of the above I have set up to apply the promotion while the user is in the usergroup being promoted but not in the usergroup they are being promoted to.

This would cause the promotion to no longer match (because they're now in a group they're not allowed to be in). This would effectively cause them to yo-yo into and out of the group with each run.

So by that token, much more inefficiently.
