User Paid Sticky [Paid] 1.2.1

No permission to buy ($49.99)
I think that's what we are all talking about.......either raising it higher (relatively) on the list and/or background.

BTW, Slavik, I looked at the implementation on your board and think it would be improved by the basic css mod of having stickies above a line and a background color. The pushpin just doesn't do it for me alone.....

Mine are whiter than the other background and have a line and an ad separating them...but that is likely to change. I may use a color to make them stand out more:

Looking at adding differentiated stlying in soon for paid stickies :)

This might be a couple of weeks off still. Need to work out the best way to implement it.
You'll have me as well once the upcoming features are released. Clever ways like this are really needed to monetize a site without killing them with ads.

Look forward to using it.

I was thinking a bid system.

Really like that idea to get purchasers bidding amongst one another to drive up demand.

I'll be keeping close watch on this. Once I have earned enough from ad sales to pay for this add-on, it's precipice on my list. An implementation like this could go VERY far on my forum.
As for a styling suggestion: Perhaps have an option in the ACP where the user can add his/her own styling? Have default styling added, but have a text box to add more. And to make it even better, you could have the paid sticky's have their own special CSS class so that it's so much easier to style. I'm sure someone like shelley would have a riot styling them :P

Just installed this on my localhost, and it certainly works well. Very easy to use.

Something I noticed though that IMO would affect sales, is how the sticky purchase is being handled from only after the thread is posted. Many people will not see that little link. That is great for those existing threads that members want to sticky to attract more content, however; I believe this should be integrated at the time of posting the thread. That is where a lot of business will be attracted IMHO, so the option is there with an explanation, the member can choose it at thread creation, the thread posts and they're presented with the payment options to complete the process. If they cancel, the thread remains "as is" without being stuck. If they follow the process from thread creation, it sticks.

Personally, I also believe the "sticky" link needs to have a green background around it to attract attention, because people do not make the distinction of a single link and paying attention to it.

Just my two cents.

Found an issue with this Slav.

It only allows me to purchase one sticky in a forum, even if I have two usernames that use the same paypal account to pay, it won't allow me anymore than one thread, yet it takes the money for the other thread anyway, but does nothing with it.

Added: I also posted another thread in another forum, and it did the same thing. I takes my money, but won't stick it.

I'm doing this on a localhost install... it processed the first one without issue.

I can't seem to replicate this?

Infact if you check http://p8ntballer-forums.com/forums/for-sale.55/ you can see 2 threads by the same user stickied up there, are you using any other addons which may interfere with it?

Would you consider adding some kind of filtering system or approval/disapproval system? We recently discussed purchasing this on my forum, however an issue that came up was: what would happen if someone managed to sticky a pornographic site? Then there's the moral issue of do you keep the money/refund it, etc. However, if you had an approval system in place, this would be very effective. Heck, you could make it a permissions thing! One usergroup doesn't have to have it approved, another usergroup does. The way you could handle approvals is(if possible) add another group of text next to the moderation queue and the reported posts on the moderation bar that says something like: "Pending Stickys". I think it would be a great addition to this add-on, and certainly would make it more appealing to purchase :)

Dang, I want to try this sometime but the price is keeping me away...not that $50 is all the money in the world, just that I don't expect it to pull in much......

Let me add another suggestion (besides a lower price!) which may add value. It would be neat to also have it be available for "donationware" in addition to making a sticky. This would be done through the same interface as follows:

1. When someone would want to spend the $10 to advance (sticky) their ad, there could also be a separate box to add a donation "to support the site" or "for a stipend for the moderators".
2. A URL or link could also be available to distribute to the regular site users (without classifieds) to allow them to just use the donate part! Alternatively, a forum room could be set up to just post threads automatically listing the donations (i.e. - person makes a donation and post appears in forum room "supporters of the site" saying "Slavik has donated to help support the site")....

In the case of my site, I expect that a lot of people would donate just to donate...and maybe some would donate over and above the $10.....

Not to say I need the money (my ads keep me happy), but I'd give the money to the other moderators as a stipend...so called "beer money".....

Anyway, rambling on....

I don't think this modification is best suited as a source for donations, but perhaps a lite version could be coded with the simple donation aspect? Just my humble opinion *bows*

This would be handled via the Sticky license agreement they have to agree to. Just put in their any links to pornographic sites will be removed with no refunds (y)
