For 360 odd days of the year we don't but for a couple of days we do (it's a football forum so deadline day is crazy).

We had 5000+ users (well, members+guests) hitting pretty much one thread at peak times yesterday.

Is Redis Cache a requirement?

I guess this add on wont be useful for most of us since pretty much majority are on shared servers.

The latest version now supports MySQL and not longer requires Redis Cache.

The XF1.x version has also been updated.

I currently don't offer server configuration as a service, someone like @MattW can do something like this.

Note this add-on doesn't require Redis any more, but it is recommended for very active sites

When you try to upgrade from a previous version, it stops at "Importing ... Add-on Date"
Nothing else happens. (there are no errors in the console)
*If in the admin panel (on the main page) click a warning about unfinished data reorganization.
That, all passes successfully but the addon all the same is shown as not updated.

This problem has arisen only with this plugin.
(When trying to update via the panel) open another tab, everything goes well.

For the sake of interest, I tried installing and updating on 2 different servers (in different data centers)

After a certain number of attempts, the installation is normal.
Strange ...
In general, the problem seems to have exhausted itself.

The installing process at that stage is 100% XF driven, and my add-on is not participating in the install process. This is likely some sort of environmental issue.

This add-on is based off [RainDD] User Activity (Users Viewed, Viewing Thread), but without the 'viewed' part and just shows users viewing. And has functionally identical display & permissions.

Yes, it is a global option to show avatars

This isn't something I currently plan to implement. If you want this feature please start a conversation with me about funding it's implementation.

There is some missing functionality, I haven't finished porting across the in-forum-list viewer count bits. Been pressed for time working on other add-ons.
