If you want to search for posts in a specific category, you have to go the Advanced search, Search threads and locate that category in Search in forums.
But if there are many forums (like here on xenforum.com) this is kinda tedious/complicated/slow.
As Select2 is already bundled, I suggest to use it there - this would make things a lot easier.
