Use "Media" or plan forum for Videos?

Hi all,

We're about to migrate a "Videos" section from Invision Board.
"Videos" was a custom Invision database where users uploaded videos (99% of them are youtube).
It had Video Categories which is helpful, and people could comment on videos.

My question is, should we migrate those to xenforo Media library or just a plain Video forum?

I feel that if we migrate them to Media library, some users will upload there and others will still use a plain forum.

What are the pros/cons for each?

Thanks
Alex

I think media makes more sense if you want each video to have its own discussion. You can set up multiple categories for various types of Youtube videos and embedding is very straightforward. Videos get comment threads and can be rated and tagged and liked and all that other jazz.

Example of a video in my Xenforo Media Gallery: https://stararmy.com/roleplay-forum...ardo-to-my-friends-here-on-star-army-rp.1935/

Threads might make more sense if you want multiple videos in one thread, like "what are you listening to right now" type threads.

XFMG Cons: It doesn't auto-generate a thumbnail so it just has a video icon in the gallery unless you make a thumbnail image for it and add it as a custom thumbnail, which is annoying.

Best of both worlds (?): It's possible for you to make a media category that mirrors a forum, so all images posted in it are also posted to the media gallery. I haven't tried it with Youtube embeds yet, though.
