So you either have an issue with your .htaccess file, or a server configuration issue.

Have you tried uploading the files again for 1.4.4? Using the Update only archive... not the full one.

I disabled it again now, don't want google indexing .

no, but to clarify, I haven't used those custom rules for some time. The default is what I have now.

I'm thinking server mod rewrite isn't setup correctly? I've just contacted my support, should have an answer shorty.

Do you have a "members" sub-directory in the file system? Particularly one with a .htaccess of its own. That is interfering.

I'm finally seeing whats happening. It appears that I have permanent custom rewrite rules in my cpanel configured. This must be trumping Xenforo .htaccess, yes?

The /members one is probably responsible for the redirect loop.
