I'm soon about to upgrade my forum from version 1.1 to 1.4. I've read various guides here on the forum (especially those by @Brogan) and I've also been doing some thinking what the best way to upgrade would be.

So far I've done a raw list of all my currently installed Add-on. I've gone through the list and marked those I will keep and those I will uninstall.

    When I upgrade I will...

    1. Backup DB
    2. Uninstall unwanted add-ons
    3. Upgrade add-ons that are supported in version 1.4.x
    4. Disable add-ons that are not officially supported in version 1.4.x
    5. Upgrade the forum to 1.4.x
    6. Enable the add-ons, one by one, that are not officially supported
Is this a correct order to do things?

I will add more steps as I continue to plan my run book for this event.

    That sounds about right.
Ensure you can upgrade add-ons designed for 1.4 while you are still running 1.1.

You could also do it on a test install first, to limit any impact on your live site.

Thanks for the input. Then I'm on the right track. I will do several test migrations on my mirrored test site until I get everything right.
