Toggle all email notifications/subscriptions on/off

Going to be doing a vb4 import to xf. I want to make sure no emails are sent to members through either imported existing vb update subscriptions or while testing before it's time to take the xf live. What's the best way to toggle all thread update, forum update, etc. subscriptions off while testing the xf site?

Add the following to config.php:

$config['enableMail'] = false;
