So.... what is the word on the new signature restrictions/rules?

Cant believe how pissy people are getting over this. Its a privilege not a right. Deal with it. XF doesn't exist for you to advertise your service on every post you make people.

One could say XF doesn't exist to advertise disney forums on every post either, signatures are unique to their makers and show who they are, some have third party services some run disney forums.

Then something is wrong if you had to rely upon finding something through a sig' instead of the XF RM, the Third-Party Service Offers forum, or even the Forum Showcase & Critques forum.

The XF staff have given us plenty of methods of advertising (which is what it really comes down to) if we so choose to instead of having to rely upon sigs that are several times larger then what a person is posting.

I forget which mod it was, but I had found @goblues ExtraLicense.com via his sig. Also as far as us, we haven't advertised in 3rd party yet either. All our clients have come from sigs (mine and a few clients who added us to theirs) or word of mouth.

I presume we'll still be able to link to our sites and services - just without the imagery. Same thing, different look. (y)

It's fair to say that if sig' perms had been a feature of the software from the first release then there would have been restrictions in place from day one.

Absolutely - and I dont run a Disney forum ;) I'd have no problem if I was told my avatar wasn't allowed as again, its a privilege not a right.

Then that is a mistake you are making and has nothing to do with sigs.

Just something I have chose not to do yet. By growing to over 100 sites in 6 months, I wouldn't really call seeing what my business could grow to from only self advertising and word of mouth a "mistake I'm making".

Thats surely not what your entire business plan and financial strategy is based on is it? You must have multiple marketing sources baked in as theres no way in hell a business can be sustained in the long run purely off signature links.

Never claimed you did, unless I missed something from my post. From what I'm seeing people aren't complaining that signature enforcement is coming, it's just a usual crowd hopping on the band wagon bashing folks with larger signatures.

So posting in the correct forum would not be "self advertising" but advertising in sigs is? Um, yeah.

Never claimed purely off signatures, as I said we receive a lot from word of mouth or also current clients starting up a second community. But no, in the 6 months in business so far, we have not advertised outside of sigs and social media. But this is really getting off topic now so let's end the discussion of it.

Oh, there is a "usual crowd"? Curious. Anyway, if you note my original post in this thread it was directed to the people who are complaining in general about sig' changes coming not those with big images.

Not to get caught up on this but i think in Mike Edges situation signature links have helped significantly since this is a xenforo forum where he provides exclusive xenforo hosting.

On that, I'll be glad to see the restrictions made and controlled because lets face it some of the signatures with 30 odd links was downright ridiculous and for me was really destroying browsing, There was seriously no need for that. But i held my tongue because if people see that it bothers you they'll just increase it and have no thought nor care for other peoples browsing experience other than to wreck it.

2 lines where it doesn't exceed 500px in width (no images) is something i'm hopeful in being enforced. The extremely long multi-lined signatures links really did put me off signatures and I'll be disabling them on my site as soon as 1.2 is public.

Anytime something happens on XF even in the past, there's usually a group with pitchforks out, wasn't directing at the same people over and over. Sorry if it came out differently

If signatures disallow the use of images, what's the problem with changing your signature to a text based link? It might not be as "out there" as your current signature is, but perhaps that's the point.

@James confused why your quoting me.. I have no objections to the no image rule. I was discussing the idea someone had about no links at all being allowed text or image wise.

Because sometimes when people voice an opinion why something works for them or doesn't it gets taken the wrong way on XF. Probably just the internet tone haha

Mine is text based and I keep it simple and direct. I only get about 3 to 5 visitors a day, not much. But it helps if people want to learn more about me.
