SEO: Should we remove the board title at the end of the "title" meta tag?

This is from the PAGE_CONTAINER template:

    <title><xf:title formatter="%s | %s" fallback="{$xf.options.boardTitle}" page="{$pageNumber}" /></title>

As a result the board title (as defined in the admin options) is displayed at the end of the meta-title, so e.g.

This is a thread title | Boardname.tld

This is the title, that usually is displayed the google SERPs.

I think adding the board title makes the meta-title often too long and does have a rather bad effect on SEO, but I have to admit, that I am not a SEO-expert.

What do you guys think? Shall we just remove the board title form the title meta tag?
